Cape Henry baseball team advances; Greenbrier Christian softball cruises

Cape Henry 6, St. Christophe­r’s

5: Reid Downs’ sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 10th inning sent the Dolphins (25-4) past the Saints in a VISAA Division I quarterfin­al Tuesday.

Cape Henry plays Collegiate School of Richmond in a 7 p.m. semifinal Friday at Shepherd Stadium in Colonial Heights.

The Dolphins’ Cooper Angilly had four hits, and Tanner Schaedel had two hits and was the winning pitcher, while Parker Wight’s hit off the rightfield fence in the bottom of the seventh erased a 5-3 Saints lead and extended the contest.

Cape Henry has not lost at home in two seasons and is 51-7 overall the past two years.

Greenbrier Christian 10, North

Cross 0: Thomas Conrad, Nico Angrisani and Andy Knox combined for eight hits, and Tucker Rupe and Cam Kaliher combined to throw a shutout.

The second-seeded Gators (21-8) advanced to a Division II semifinal at 1:30 p.m. on Friday against third-seeded Nansemond-Suffolk Academy at Shepherd Stadium.

Nansemond-Suffolk 9, Virginia

Ty Howlett went Episcopal 5: 3-for-4 with a triple and two RBIs, and Tyree Claxton added two hits for the Saints (19-5) at home. Jackson Runyon earned the win, striking out six in three innings.

Walsingham Academy 13, Amelia

Academy 0: The top-seeded, defending champion Trojans easily advanced in Division III with a home victory in Williamsbu­rg. Sean Sousa had two hits, including a home run, and two RBIs. Luke Harlow had two hits and two RBIs, Joey Masiak had two hits and pitcher Ryan Terrell struck out five in three innings for his fifth victory.

Walsingham faces fourthseed­ed New Community, of Richmond, at 7 tonight in a semifinal at Shepherd Stadium.

Softball

Atlantic Shores 12, Seton 0: Kate Charlton struck out seven and pitched a one-hitter as the thirdseede­d Seahawks (11-6) rolled to advance to the Division II semifinals. They face second-seeded Fredericks­burg Christian at Dinwiddie Sports Complex at 3 p.m. today.

Mylie McCoy led off the bottom of the first with a home run, tripled and finished 3-for-4 with three RBIs. Liv Edenfield, Charlton and Victoria Beatty all doubled. Edenfield and Charlton had two RBIs each.

Nansemond-Suffolk Academy

Rylea Nelms and 17, Foxcroft 2: Grace Patterson were 3-for-3 with two RBIs apiece as the top-seeded Saints cruised to the Division II semifinals. Malli Groves also contribute­d a home run for the Saints, who play fifth-seeded Isle of Wight Academy at Dinwiddie Sports Complex at 3 p.m. today.

Isle of Wight Academy 5, Miller

The fifthseede­d School of Albemarle 4: Chargers traveled to oust the fourth-seeded Mavericks in the Charlottes­ville area.

Greenbrier Christian 11, Roanoke

Catholic 1: Linda Hodge struck out nine and gave up only two hits to secure a five-inning home win for the third-seeded Gators (18-8). Krystina Love went 3-for-3 and had four RBIs, and Hodge and Elizabeth Thome had two hits each.

Greenbrier plays a Division III semifinal at Dinwiddie Sports Complex at 5 p.m. today against second-seeded Kenston Forest or seventh-seeded Hampton Christian Academy.

Boys lacrosse Nansemond-Suffolk Academy 12, Trinity at Meadow View 8:

Cooper Goss scored his 100th career goal for the top-seeded Saints in a VISAA Division II quarterfin­al in Suffolk. N-SA hosts a semifinal today against fourth-seeded Virginia Episcopal of Lynchburg.

Norfolk Collegiate 24, Seton 6:

The third-seeded Oaks breezed to a Division II home victory, earning a trip to Roanoke to play second-seeded North Cross in a semifinal today.

Girls lacrosse Nansemond-Suffolk Academy

14, Norfolk Collegiate 12: Freshman Sarah Carson topped the 100-point plateau for the season in a Division II quarterfin­al. Izzy Rose added a hat trick, while Haley Price (four assists) and Page Henry each scored twice.

Emma Reaghard and Annie Trapani found the net four times for the fifth-seeded Oaks.

Cape Henry 18, Foxcroft 5: The second-seeded Dolphins breezed to a Division I victory in Virginia Beach, earning a semifinal berth at 4:30 p.m. today against thirdseede­d Virginia Episcopal.

Boys tennis Norfolk Collegiate 5, Hampton

Roads Academy 1: The secondseed­ed Oaks, coming off a TCIS Tournament runner-up showing, ousted the seventh-seeded Navigators on Old Dominion’s courts. They were the only 757-area teams in the Division II bracket.

Norfolk Collegiate will return to ODU today for a semifinal against third-seeded Highland of Warrenton.
