Carter continues domination

Boosts Modified win total this season to 5

-

Matt Carter won both twin 50-lap Modified features Saturday night on a stock car racing card at Langley Speedway in Hampton, giving him five victories in that division this season.

Only standout Brenden Queen, with one victory in a rare Modified appearance, has kept Carter from winning every race so far this year.

Carter took the 14 ½-minute opener by 1.665 seconds over Mark Wertz. DJ Valente was third, 2.87 seconds behind Carter, among 16 drivers.

Carter’s victory in the nightcap dragged by comparison, lasting more than 27 minutes. Brad Adams was 1.104 seconds behind as the runner-up, and Eric Fowlkes was a distant third. Valente was fifth, the only driver besides Carter to register top-five finishes in both races.

Pro Six: Travis Wall showed why he’s the season points leader, earning a 25-lap victory by 0.853 of a second over runner-up Atley Wiese. The race took more than 12 minutes and had just six entrants, and Wall remained unbeaten in three starts in 2023.

Super Truck: Hunter Waltrip didn’t face much of a challenge in a 25-lap race, taking less than 24 minutes to win by 4.561 seconds over runner-up Donald Brown. Bill Wallace was third.

It was Waltrip’s second win in the division’s three races. Jacob Carr, the points leader beginning the night, lasted just four laps and was 14th among the 15 entrants.

Champ Kart: Timmy Waltrip edged Jeffrey Johnson by 77-thousandths of a second for a 20-lap victory that took more than seven minutes.

David Phelps was third as all but two drivers finished on the lead lap.

It was Waltrip’s first victory of the season. Ryan Hudgins, who began the night leading the standings, was seventh.

Virginia Racers: Jacob Derrick and Ayden Millette captured 35-lap victories in fields of 15 drivers, the first triumphs for both this season.

Derrick cruised to victory by 5.518 seconds in the 35-lap opener, beating Ryley Music by 5.518 seconds in a race that took more than 10 minutes.

The encore was far closer, with Millette holding off Music by 809-thousandths of a second in a race that lasted about 16:20. Cody Bryant, a two-time Virginia Racers victor this year, was third in both events.

Chris Kane captured a 30-lap victory, his first of the year, to close the program, followed by Charlie Bryant and third-place Stephen Flinn in a field of 23, the night’s largest. Cody Bryant, who started the night atop the standings, was fifth.
