Grassfield girls look to extend state reign

Admission: $10, available online at gofan.co/app/school/VHSL Outlook: Grassfield’s girls won their first state indoor title last winter. Now the Grizzlies try for an outdoor title, led by thrower Morgan Graham, the top seed in the discus (161 feet, 5 inches) and shot put (41-9). They also have several key runners, including sprinter Sophie Rambo, the top seed in the 400 (54.65). Also watch for Grassfield boys thrower Jordae Edwards, the top seed in the shot (63-0½). Western Branch senior Llyric Driscoll should score a lot of points for the Bruins as she competes in the long jump, triple jump, high jump, discus, 100 hurdles and 100 meters. Oscar Smith’s top athletes include Shakayla Lavender, the top seed in the 100 hurdles (13.55) and 300 hurdles (42.87). Teammate Jamiel Bowers is the top seed in the 110 hurdles (14.14) and Alvin Jones is the top seed in the 100 (10.62). Ocean Lakes’ Lambert Edigin is the top seed in the 800 (1:53.77).

David Anderson (60-2¾), Norview sprinter K’Wan Bryant, Tallwood sprinter Khari Barnes, Nansemond River sprinter Nyah Harrison, Nansemond River hurdler Charles Wall-Davis and Tallwood hurdler Ariel Fletcher.

CLASS 4

Saturday, 9 a.m.

Where: Liberty University, Lynchburg

Admission: $10, available online at gofan.co/app/school/VHSL Outlook: The Heritage girls have a good chance to defend their state title, led by senior Madison Whyte, who is the top seed in the 100 (11.39), 200 (22.81) and 400 (52.49). They also have 100 hurdler Myzhane Solomon (14.51). Other top seeds include Warhill’s Leo Davis in the 800 (1:52.61), Churchland triple jumper Damilola Ogbeta (38-5 ½) and Manor triple jumper Nicolas Simmons (47-2).

CLASS 3

When: Today, 12:30 p.m.;

Saturday, 9 a.m.

Where: Liberty University, Lynchburg

Admission: $10, available online at gofan.co/app/school/VHSL Outlook: York senior Ciarra Moore is the favorite in the long jump (190) and triple jump (39-8). Other top seeds are Lakeland sprinter Kamryn Monroe, Tabb distance runner Lauren Pegher, York triple jumper Micah Leech and Lakeland thrower Justin Royez.

CLASS 2

Where: James Madison University, Harrisonbu­rg

Admission: $10, available online at gofan.co/app/school/VHSL Outlook: Poquoson freshman Elizabeth Trant should challenge in the 1,600 (5:01.97) and 3,200 (10:47.26).
