Bruce Reginald Spady, 94, passed peacefully on the morning of September 10, 2023 at Riverside Convalescence in Smithfield, VA. He was a lifelong resident and farmer of Smithfield. He was well known in Isle of Wight County for his outstanding dedication to farming and the land he tended. Bruce is predeceased by his parents, Ramos and Wilma (Pope) Spady, his teenage sweetheart and wife, Eleanor “Gray” (Martin) Spady, his brother Roland (Jean), his son Dennis and his granddaughter Adrienne Beale. He is survived by his son Bruce Wayne (Darlene) and his daughter Teresa Beale (Richard) and his daughter-in-law Linda (Saunders) Spady. He is also survived by his grandchildren Wayne, Brandon, Brock and Blake Spady; Derrick and Lane Beale; and 6 great grandchildren living across the world from Australia to Virginia. He began farming as a youth with his father and grew his business over the years to include his two sons. Farming was not only his living but a passion with great love of the land and crops he produced. Retired in recent years, his commitment for farming remained a daily constant in his thoughts to the last day. A favorite part of each day was talking with his son, Bruce Wayne, to catch up on the weather and progress of the crops. He knew so many people and thought so highly of everyone, always wishing the best for all. He enjoyed many hobbies throughout his life including fishing, hunting, boating with family and friends, flying, and for the last 25 years classic cars as a member of the Colonial Virginia Model A Ford Club, where he met many wonderful people whom he considered his dearest friends. The club’s monthly meetings and annual events have been his favorite pastime. Bruce is irreplaceable in the lives and hearts of his family. He will be greatly missed and we will carry him with us, always. A family visitation will take place from 6 to 7 pm Friday, September 15 at Littles Funeral Home and a graveside service will be held 2pm Saturday at St. Luke’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Carrolton Volunteer Fire Department or the Relay for Life of Isle of Wight - The American Cancer Society. His family wishes to thank the staff at Riverside Convalescence and his many friends for the love and thoughtfulness shown to our father.
