Carter, Wall cap championship years with victories
Langley Speedway crowned six yearly division champions Saturday night, including two who won their season finales: Matt Carter in Modified and Travis Wall in Pro Six.
Carter had clinched the championship long ago. He punctuated it with his 10th victory in 14 Modified races, finishing 50 laps in 27 minutes, 22 seconds, to defeat runner-up Chase Burrow by 1.079 seconds. Peyton Ferree was third in the field of 12, 4.164 seconds off the pace.
In other divisions:
Super Street: Sammy Gaita, who held a comfortable lead in points, was crowned the champ after his fourth-place finish during a year in which he won seven races, more than all of his division rivals combined.
Landon Abbott gained his third triumph of the year, taking about 24:26 to do so. He was 1.130 seconds ahead of runner-up Dale Nichols in the field of 16.
Super Truck: Hunter Waltrip emerged atop one of the year’s closer chases in the standings. He began the night five points ahead of
Donald Brown and placed sixth in a field of 10, one spot behind Brown.
Chris Roberts cruised to victory in the 25-lap race, taking just more than 10 minutes to defeat Bill Wallace by 2.978 seconds. It was Roberts’ fifth season-leading triumph of the year, one more than Waltrip.
Enduro: Charlie Bryant, who boasted a comfortable points lead, was crowned after his fourth-place night. Stephen Flinn, who finished second in points, won a 30-lap race that included 16 drivers. He gained his third victory of the year, with Alex Floroff taking second and
Thomas Fontaine third.
Pro Six: Wall achieved his ninth victory in 10 races, taking about 10:44 to finish 1.981 seconds ahead of Super Street champ Gaita over 25 laps.
Atley Wiese, the points runner-up, was third in the race.
Champ Kart: Ryan Hudgins already had ensured the championship before a 20-lap race in which he took fifth. Jordan Valdes won an 11-minute, 10-second thriller, edging Billy Dailey by 99-thousandths of a second for victory No. 2 of the year.
