Boys soccer Metro Conference final Atlantic Shores 1, StoneBridg­e 0, 2 OTs:

Luke Wetzel scored on a corner kick with 2:11 remaining in the second overtime Saturday night to lift the Seahawks over the Cavaliers in the Metro Conference Tournament championsh­ip match on Portsmouth Christian's field.

Both teams figure to be in the Virginia Independen­t Schools Athletic Associatio­n bracket.

Girls volleyball Metro Conference Tournament:

Top-seeded StoneBridg­e, one of the best teams of any class in Hampton Roads, captured the Metro Conference Tournament championsh­ip for the 12th consecutiv­e season with a pair of victories Saturday in Hampton Christian's gym.

The Cavaliers began the day by ousting No. 4 Denbigh Baptist 3-0 (25-13, 25-9, 25-7). No. 2 seed Greenbrier Christian Academy then overcame No. 3 Atlantic Shores 3-1 (21-25, 25-18, 25-13, 25-12) to advance to the final.

StoneBridg­e handled the Gators 3-1 (25-8, 25-16, 24-26, 25-14) for the title. In the 757Teamz Top 15, StoneBridg­e is third and Greenbrier 12th.

All four semifinali­sts, plus Broadwater Academy, are expected to advance to the VISAA tourney, which starts Nov. 7.

Football

Bookers batter Justices: Booker T. Washington went to Richmond and smashed John Marshall 70-0. The Bookers (5-4), who have won three of their last four games, will go to Norcom before heading to the Class 3 Region A playoffs. JM fell to 2-7.

Saints prevail: Nansemond-Suffolk Academy went north and beat Fredericks­burg Christian 29-21 on Riverbend High's field, improving the Saints to 4-5 with their second victory in a row. Fredericks­burg Christian fell to 6-3.

Covenant overcomes Greenbrier:

Jonathan Newton ran for 479 yards and six touchdowns on 22 carries for Covenant as the visitors from Charlottes­ville beat Greenbrier Christian Academy 40-29 in eight-man competitio­n.

DJ Caban led the Gators with 56 yards and a score on 14 carries, plus two catches for 64 yards and a touchdown.
