William & Mary comes out firing in big win

Tribe races away from Longwood in third quarter

- Staff, wire reports

William & Mary’s women relied on hot shooting and stingy defense Sunday to dismantle Longwood 86-49 at Kaplan Arena.

The 37-point win was the Tribe’s largest margin over a Division I opponent since February 2014, when W&M beat UNC Wilmington 97-44.

Though foul trouble limited Nylah Young to 13 minutes, she scored 20 points on 8-of-11 shooting for her fifth game with at least 20 this season.

Cassidy Geddes had 19 points and Kayla Rolph nine for W&M, which shot 52.3% (9 of 22) to Longwood’s 30.4% (17 of 56).

W&M went ahead 14-3 and 23-10. The Lancers pulled to 28-27, but the Tribe outscored them 15-4 to complete the first half.

W&M outscored Longwood 27-5 in the third quarter, holding the Lancers scoreless in the final 8:17.
