South Carolina women best LSU

Bree Hall made a go-ahead 3-pointer with 1:14 remaining Thursday night, and No. 1 South Carolina rallied from an 11-point deficit to beat the defending national champion, No. 9 LSU, 76-70 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Chloe Kitts scored 14 points to lead the Gamecocks (18-0, 6-0 SEC), who beat the Tigers (18-3, 5-2) for the 15th straight time and snapped LSU’s 29-game home winning streak.

Aneesah Morrow had 16 points and 13 rebounds for LSU. Angel Reese had 15 points and eight rebounds.

LSU led 24-18 after one quarter and 41-30 late in the second, but the Gamecocks closed the period with a 6-0 run.

South Carolina took its first lead since the first basket of the game when Kamilla Cardoso converted a layup for a 63-61 advantage with 6:06 left in the fourth.

Raven Johnson had 13 points and Te-Hina Paopao 12 for the Gamecocks.

More women

Pittsburgh 56, Virginia 52: UVA (9-10, 1-7) was outscored 24-6 in the third quarter by Pittsburgh (7-13, 1-6), and the Panthers held on to win at John Paul Jones Arena.

Reigning ACC Rookie of the Week Kymora Johnson led the Cavaliers with 17 points on 6-of-14 shooting, pulled down seven rebounds and dished out four assists.

The Panthers had three players score in double figures in Jala Jordan (18 points), Liatu King (15 points and 16 rebounds) and Aislin Malcolm (11 points).

No. 7 North Carolina State 71, Clemson 49: Madison Hayes scored a career-high 24 points as the Wolfpack won its 15th straight over Clemson.

The Wolfpack (17-2, 5-2 Atlantic Coast Conference) had gone 2-2 after opening 14-0, including road losses at Virginia Tech and Miami.

But N.C. State opened with a 13-2 run. After Clemson closed to 18-15, the Wolfpack went on a 14-0 burst to restore the big lead.

Mimi Collins scored 14 points and Saniya Rivers 13 for the Wolfpack. Virginia Beach’s Aziaha James had seven points despite 3-of-17 shooting, plus six rebounds and five assists.

Men

Oregon State 83, No. 9 Arizona 80: Jordan Pope hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer for the upset, and the Beavers’ fans stormed the court in Corvallis to celebrate.

Pope scored 31 points and made four 3-pointers in the second half, none bigger than the 22-footer from the left wing as time expired.

Pelle Larson made two free throws for Arizona (14-5, 5-3 Pac-12) to tie it at 80 with 11.2 seconds left. Oregon State (10-9, 2-6) elected not to call a timeout, trusting Pope to deliver on the final shot.

The Beavers snapped a five-game losing streak.

Caleb Love led Arizona with 23 points, while Keshad Johnson had 18.
