Pembroke Square donates materials, furniture to Habitat for Humanity

-

The demolition of the interior of Pembroke Square, formerly Pembroke Mall, is benefiting a local nonprofit.

Workers recently filled two 22-foot truckloads with building and office materials, furniture, doors, food court tables and retail supplies from the Virginia Beach mall, all of it to be sold at a pair of ReStores run by Habitat of Humanity of South Hampton Roads.

All proceeds will be used to support Habitat’s mission of building safe, decent and affordable homes and making critical home repairs. The efforts support local hardworking, low-income families buy the home of their dreams and income-constrained seniors, disabled or veterans unable to make repairs on their own.

By partnering with Habitat, Pembroke Square was able to divert over 8 tons of items from local landfills.

“This is a win-win-win for everyone,” Ramsay Smith, asset manager of Pembroke Square and president of Pembroke Realty Group, said in a statement.

Most of Pembroke Square is being redeveloped into a mixed-use community with stores, offices, housing and a hotel.

Habitat runs two ReStores, one on Tidewater Drive in Norfolk and the other at Providence Square Shopping Center on Kempsville Road in Virginia

Beach.

The property’s current tenants include the American Red Cross, Bahama Breeze, Coastal Edge, Decisions.com, DSW, EyeCare Optometry, J.Crew Factory, Jason’s Deli, Kohl’s, Latitude Climbing + Fitness, Nordstrom Rack, Old Navy, Rack Room Shoes, REI, Smokey Bones, Target, The Fresh Market, Tire Choice, Truist, and Walgreens.

They will remain open throughout construction and redevelopment.
