Alyssa White and Izzie Check won two individual events and were part of two winning relays as Bruton turned in a dominating performanc­e to win the Class 2 championsh­ip Thursday night at SwimRVA in Richmond.

White was first in the 200-yard freestyle and 100 freestyle, while Check won the 200 individual medley and 100 breaststro­ke.

The Panthers finished with 359.5 points, followed by Radford (299), Nandua (200) and Strasburg (170.5). Poquoson finished seventh at 105.

Bruton’s Maddie Hubbard won the 500 freestyle and Peyton Cleary was second in the 50 free.

The Panthers also had victories in the 200 medley relay (Scarlett Miller, Check, Hubbard and Dori Veith), 200 freestyle relay (Cleary, Veith, Miller and White) and 400 freestyle relay (White, Hubbard, Check and Cleary).

Glenvar won the boys title with 238 points, ahead of Poquoson (175) and Radford (161). Bruton was sixth (154).

Bruton’s Zach Hubbard won the 200 freestyle and 100 backstroke, while Poquoson’s Tony DeVries was first in the 100 freestyle and teamed with Dylan Robinson, Owens Landon and Jack Sebring to win the 400 freestyle relay.

Wrestling

Cox took the early lead in Class 5 at the Virginia High School League wrestling championsh­ips, whose top categories — Classes 4, 5 and 6 — are all at the Virginia Beach Sports Center and down to the semifinals and wrestlebac­ks.

The Falcons scored 75 points as of 5:30 p.m. on Friday, followed by Riverbend (61) and third-place Great Bridge (56.5). Cox put five wrestlers in today’s 9:30 a.m. semis, while Great Bridge advanced four.

Several semifinals will feature all-Hampton Roads matchups: Granby’s Keith Fernandez vs. Maury’s Arturo Moya-Luna at 106 pounds; Josiah Irizarry of Tallwood vs. Thomas Egley of Great Bridge at 113; Cox’s Spencer Keyes vs. Deep Creek’s Amir Wray-Hill at 120; Tallwood’s Blake Butler vs. First Colonial’s Thomas Stofka at 150; Ocean Lakes’ Logan Chambers vs. Nansemond River’s Benjamin Hanson at 165; and Cox’s Rudy Wagner vs. Woodside’s Nehemiah Mix at 190.

In Class 6, Grassfield’s Nick Moore (132) and Matox Allen (150), Landstown’s Michael Phoutasen (138) and Naasir Edmonds (285) and Western Branch’s Brandon Cynar (113) were the semifinali­sts from Hampton Roads.

In Class 2 at Salem Civic Center, Poquoson held second place as of 6p.m. on Friday with 71 points, while Strasburg led with 84. The Islanders got eight wrestlers to the semis.

In Class 3, also at Salem, Lafayette’s Christian Gordy (175), Grafton’s Andrew Soto (190) and Lake Taylor’s Marquise DrewRogers (190) advanced to the semis.
