Norfolk State wins in 12th against Mount

Raphael Rodriguez hit a walk-off RBI single in the 12th inning to give Norfolk State a 7-6 home victory over Mount St. Mary’s, giving the Spartans two wins in their opening three-game series. Swaroop Pujari kept NSU alive with a solo home run in the ninth inning.

William & Mary gave up seven runs in the top of the first but outlasted Holy Cross 14-12 at Plumeri Park to finish 2-1 in their season-opening set. The Tribe’s Joe Delossanto­s was 2 for 4 with two runs and four RBIs, and Nate Goranson was 2 for 3 with two runs and three RBIs.

No. 14 Virginia edged Hofstra 11-9 to sweep a three-game series in Charlottes­ville. Freshman Henry Ford hit a three-run home run in the sixth to give the Cavaliers an 11-6 edge. Cox High alum Ethan Anderson was 2 for 4 with two runs and two RBIs, and Western Branch High graduate Harrison Didawick scored once and had two hits.

Long a coed school despite its name, Mississipp­i University for Women defeated Virginia Wesleyan 9-7 in Montgomery, Alabama, overcoming a 5-1 deficit.

VWU’s Clay Clarke and Michael Burton Jr. drove in two runs each. Clarke batted 3 for 3 and Micah Fox was 4 for 5.

Host Charlotte salvaged a victory from Virginia Tech (2-1), winning 10-5 in a series finale.

Christophe­r Newport (4-0), ranked 20th in Division III, drew 13 walks, including five with the bases loaded, to beat Eastern Mennonite 8-7. Josh Reinhold, Zach Dzarnowski and Lincoln Lubsen drove in two runs each.

Apprentice School (8-2) swept Penn State Mont Alto 11-5, 11-3 in a Sunday doublehead­er to earn three wins in the four-game series at War Memorial Stadium in Hampton.

In Game 1, Nate Leary, Camden Weston, Riggs Ellis and Nolan Edwards drove in two runs each. In Game 2, Edwards and Jeremy Harmon had two RBIs apiece.
