Sinner takes crown in Rotterdam indoors
Jannik Sinner has won the ABN Amro Open in his first tournament since capturing the Australian Open. The top-seeded Sinner was playing his second straight Rotterdam final. He beat fifth-seeded Alex de Minaur 7-5, 6-4 Sunday on an indoor hard court. Sinner extended his perfect record against the Australian to 7-0. Sinner lost last year’s final to Daniil Medvedev.
Baseball: Shohei Ohtani, who’s coming back from elbow surgery and will hit but not pitch this season, will not play in Thursday’s spring training opener against the Padres.
Soccer: Rasmus Hojlund scored twice in the opening seven minutes and Manchester United then withstood a spirited fightback to hang on for a 2-1 win at Luton and a fourth straight Premier League victory. Hojlund extended his scoring streak to six straight league games when he seized on a defensive howler to net the opener after just 37 seconds. He added the second with a slice of luck as a shot deflected off his chest and into the net. But Luton dominated the rest of the first half, and captain Carlton Morris pulled one goal back with a close-range header in the 14th. However, the hosts couldn’t capitalize on a number of chances and hit the crossbar in injury time.
Swimming: American Hunter Armstrong finished with four medals at the World Aquatics Championships in Qatar. On the final day, he swam on the winning 4x100 medley relay and took silver in the 50-meter backstroke. The 23-yearold won golds earlier in the championships in the mixed 4x100 medley relay and 100 backstroke.
