UVA earns road upset

Cavs first unranked ACC team to win in Louisville’s arena

Camryn Taylor scored nine of her 22 points in the fourth quarter, Kymora Johnson made three free throws in the last 14.6 seconds, and Virginia made history with a 73-68 win over No. 20 Louisville.

The Cavaliers (14-13, 6-10) became the first unranked Atlantic Coast Conference team to win in the KFC Yum! Center since it opened, ending a streak of 56 wins for the Cardinals. UVA has beaten three Top 25 teams.

Louisville, down 32-26 at halftime, scored 28 points in the third quarter to take a 54-47 lead. The Cardinals led 60-51 with 7 ½ minutes to go, but Jillian Brown hit a 3-pointer, starting a Virginia 15-1 run. Johnson capped it with a 3-pointer and layup that made it 66-61 with 2:57 remaining. Kiki Jefferson had 10 points and 10 rebounds for Louisville.

No. 8 Virginia Tech 74, North Carolina 62: Elizabeth Kitley scored 34 points in the 10th consecutiv­e win for the Hokies (23-4, 14-2), who clinched at least a share of the program’s first regular-season Atlantic Coast Conference title and ensured the tournament’s No. 1 seed after being an ESPN “College GameDay” host earlier in the day.

Kitley connected on 11 of 17 from the floor and 12 of 14 from the freethrow line before the Hokies’ fifth home sellout this season. They ended the first quarter on a 21-2 burst to go ahead by 16.

Deja Kelly led the Tar Heels (18-10, 10-6) with 29 points. The loss ended UNC’s three-game winning streak.

William & Mary 66, Hampton 58: Graduate student Nylah Young recorded 24 points and 10 rebounds against her former team, leading the Tribe (14-11, 10-4 Coastal Athletic Associatio­n) past the Pirates (2-22, 2-12) before 1,291 at Kaplan Arena. The matchup was the Tribe’s Play4Kay game, raising money and awareness for breast cancer.

Cassidy Geddes scored 13 points and Bella Nascimento 11 for W&M, which led 33-16 late in the first half.

Hampton roared back in a third quarter in which it shot 10 of 13, cutting the deficit to 44-42. It was 52-50 before Geddes sank a 3-pointer and two free throws to make the lead 57-50 with 2:15 to go, and the Tribe sank free throws to complete the victory.

HU’s Amyah Reaves had 16 points, seven rebounds, four assists and four steals. Casey Miller added 12 points.

No. 1 South Carolina 103, Kentucky 55: Bree Hall scored 18 points, MiLaysia Fulwiley added 17 points off the bench and the visiting Gamecocks (27-0, 14-0) clinched their third consecutiv­e outright Southeaste­rn Conference regular-season championsh­ip and eighth in 11 years. Ajae Petty had 16 points for the Wildcats (11-17, 5-9).

No. 2 Ohio State 79, Maryland 66: Celeste Taylor had 20 points as Ohio State (24-4, 15-1) clinched at least a share of the Big Ten title and the No. 1 seed in the conference tournament with a home win over Maryland (16-11, 8-8). The Buckeyes won their 14th straight game.

Bri McDaniel had 21 points and Brinae Alexander 16 for the Terrapins.

No. 3 Stanford 81, Arizona State 67: Kiki Iriafen had 22 points and 20 rebounds, Cameron Brink added 14 points and the Cardinal (24-4, 13-3) wrapped up at least a share of the Pac-12 regular-season title. Brink, who also had nine rebounds, seven assists and five blocks, returned from an illness for her last regular-season home contest.

No. 4 Iowa 101, Illinois 85: Caitlin Clark scored 24 points on the way to her 16th career triple-double, Hannah Stuelke added 20 and the Hawkeyes (24-4, 13-3 Big Ten) beat the Illini (13-13, 7-9) in Iowa City.

Clark had 15 rebounds and 10 assists for her Division I-leading fifth triple-double of the season as Iowa bounced back from a loss to No. 14 Indiana.

Duke 69, No. 6 N.C. State 58: The Blue Devils (18-9, 10-6 ACC) shut down the Wolfpack (23-5, 11-5) to win at Cameron Indoor Stadium.

No. 18 Utah 74, No. 7 Southern Alissa Pili had 23 California 68: points and nine rebounds as Utah (20-8, 10-6 Pac-12) beat USC for the second time this season and ended the host Trojans’ sevengame

winning streak. Freshman star JuJu Watkins led USC (21-5, 11-5) with 30 points.

Washington 61, No. 9 Oregon State 51: Elle Ladine scored 23 points, Dalayah Daniels added 15 and Washington (15-12, 5-11) damaged the Beavers’ hopes of at least sharing the last Pac-12 title.

Timea Gardiner had 13 points and 11 rebounds for Oregon State (22-5, 11-5).

Kansas 58, No. 10 Kansas State 55:

S’Mya Nichols scored 22 points for Kansas (16-11, 9-7 Big 12), which closed the home victory in Lawrence with an 11-4 run. Ayoka Lee scored 14 points and Taryn Sides added 11 for the Wildcats (23-5, 12-4).

Late Saturday

Regent 71, Johnson & Wales 70: Layla Turner’s three-point play on a drive with 5.9 seconds remaining gave the Royals (8-14) a win in their home finale.

Jabarria Brown scored 18 points and Kali Murrell had 14 on a night she and fellow seniors were honored by Regent, which lost by 38 to the visitors from Charlotte, North Carolina, earlier this season.
