Tribe’s skid up to nine

William & Mary led much of Thursday night, but saw its losing streak reach nine with a 76-71 loss at Elon.

Despite 6-of-11 3-point shooting by Gabe Dorsey, who led all scorers with 20 points, the Tribe yielded late in North Carolina.

W&M (8-22, 3-14 CAA) will play host to Hampton at 2 p.m. today in a regular-season finale at Kaplan Arena. The victor will avoid last place, while the losing team will be relegated to it.

Caleb Dorsey had 12 points, six rebounds and three assists for the Tribe. Chase Lowe had 10 points, six assists and five rebounds.

For Elon (13-17, 6-11), TJ Simpkins had 18 points, eight rebounds and three steals

No. 17 Saint Mary’s 83, Pepperdine 57: The Gaels (24-6, 15-0 West Coast) breezed past the Waves (12-19, 5-11) in Malibu, California.

Augustas Marciulion­is scored 17 points for Saint Mary’s. Jevon Porter led Pepperdine with 22.

No. 19 Washington State 75, Southern California 72: Isaiah Watts and Andrej Jakimovski scored 18 points each and Myles Rice had 16 for the host Cougars (22-7, 13-5 Pac-12), who trailed by 12 points late in the first half and didn’t take their first lead until 2:35 remaining on a 3-pointer from Watts, his fifth 3 of the game.

Freshman Isaiah Collier scored a game-high 24 points for the Trojans (11-17, 5-12), but missed a critical free throw with 23 seconds left that would have cut Washington State’s lead to two points.

No. 23 Gonzaga 86, San Francisco 68: Graham Ike poured in 26 points for the Bulldogs (23-6, 13-2 WCC) at Chase Center, the Golden State Warriors’ arena. They zoomed away from the Dons (22-8, 11-4) early in the second half and beat them for the 29th consecutiv­e time.

State Gardner-Webb 72, Longwood 69:

Lucas Stieber scored 20 points and shot 7 for 9, including 5 for 7 from beyond the arc, to help the Runnin’ Bulldogs (15-15, 10-5 Big South) edge the Lancers (17-13, 5-10) in Boiling Springs, North Carolina.

Walyn Napper finished with 14 points and four assists for the Lancers. Emanuel Richards added 13 points, and Elijah Tucker recorded 11 points and nine rebounds.

Liberty 83, New Mexico State 58: Zach Cleveland’s 22 points, eight rebounds and seven assists led the Flames (17-11, 6-7 Conference USA) in Lynchburg. Kyle Rode scored 21 points and added seven rebounds and five assists.

Christian Cook led the Aggies (11-18, 5-9) with 15 points.

Women No. 12 N.C. State 75, No. 19 Syracuse 71:

Saniya Rivers scored 22 points, including the clinching free throws with 10.9 seconds left in overtime, as North Carolina State (24-5, 12-5) defeated Syracuse (23-6, 13-5) in Raleigh.

The win at Reynolds Coliseum gave the Wolfpack a shot at the No. 2 seed in the ACC Tournament next week and handed Virginia Tech the outrightti­tle.TheOrangea­reassured a top-four seed, which means a double bye to the quarterfin­als.

The Wolfpack would get the second seed with a win over Wake Forest on Sunday.

Duke 73, Virginia 54: Duke (19-9, 11-6 ACC) took a 9-0 lead and never looked back as the Blue Devils defeated Virginia (14-14, 6-11) at Cameron Indoor Stadium.

UVA’s Kymora Johnson scored a game-high 14 points and pulled down six rebounds.

No. 1 South Carolina 98, Arkansas 61: Ashlyn Watkins had 21 points and 11 rebounds as visiting South Carolina (28-0, 15-0 SEC) stayed unbeaten with just one game to play in the regular season.

No. 4 Stanford 67, No. 11 Oregon State 63: Cameron Brink had a career-high 23 rebounds and 25 points as Stanford (25-4, 14-3) claimed the Pac-12 regular-season title with a victory in Corvallis, Oregon.

No. 7 Southern California 95, Arizona 93 (2OT): Kayla Padilla hit a tying 3-pointer in the closing seconds of regulation and made another key 3 in the second overtime, lifting USC (22-5, 12-5 Pac-12) in Tucson, Arizona.

No. 8 UCLA 70, Arizona State 41: Lauren Betts had 20 points and 11 rebounds and Kiki Rice added 14 points for the Bruins (23-5, 12-5 Pac-12).

No. 9 LSU 80, Georgia 54: Angel Reese added another double-double to her season-long list with 17 points and 15 rebounds as visiting LSU (25-4, 12-3 SEC) earned its seventh straight win.
