Former Hokie leads Newport News pack
Former Virginia Tech runner Max Greczyn won the 10th One City Marathon on Sunday, finishing the 26.2-mile Newport News course in 2 hours, 32 minutes, 27.41 seconds.
The race begins at Newport News Park and ends at the downtown Victory Arch.
Greczyn’s victory was a highlight of a weekend that featured thousands of participants, volunteers and supporters throughout the city. The Northern Virginia native, who now lives in Blacksburg, and dozens of others were under Boston Marathon qualifying times, which include 3 hours for men age 18-34 and 3:30 for women age 18-34.
Lauren Hite, a 31-year-old pro triathlete who grew up in Alaska and now is from Charlottesville, ran a time of 2:59:17.33 for the women’s championship.
Michael Babinec, 29, a former all-conference University of South Florida cross country competitor, was the men’s runner-up in 2:33:25.00. Sean Bush, a 34-yearold from Williamsburg, was third in 2:44:01.09.
Dylan Gearinger, a 26-yearold from Scranton, Pennsylvania, won the Maritime 5K Saturday in 14:57.06 and the half-marathon Sunday in 1:06:13.23.
Allison Kelley, a 31-year-old mother from Charlottesville, won the women’s half-marathon in 1:17:22.73. Hannah Betman, 32, of Baltimore won the Maritime 5KL women’s division in 16:38.86.
