Edward L Blanks

-

(10/22/1936 - 3/6/2024) I was Edward Lee Blanks and I lived to be 87 years old. Born in Hampton, VA to Richard Edward Blanks and Virginia Lee Taylor, I was the last of my Father’s children but my Mother’s first and only. My siblings were R.E. Jr., William Earl and Bettie Anne, only William Earl survives. World War II began just as I was ready for kindergarten. I lived in Portsmouth (Craddock), Williamsburg and then back to Hampton, Class of 1955 for High School graduation. My next degree was from Old Dominion University (A.A.S.) in 1965. My active duty military time -- boot camp and guided missile training, helped me decide to become an Architect. My 57 year marriage began when my college sweetheart, Martha, graduated from William and Mary in 1963 and we wed in August of that year. We lived 10 years in Hampton then built a house in Williamsburg. That was our home for the rest of our days. She passed in 2021 from Parkinsons. I enjoyed architecture, it made going to work each day worthwhile and my 45 years in the profession was a labor of love -- the last 32 were in my own practice. Our life was filled with love and shared with a border collie and two tabby cats over the years. Besides my brother Bill, I am survived by my niece Susan Blanchard(Les) who tirelessly cared for me in my last days and her two sons, Quinton and Marshall (Hannah). I would like to extend gratitude for all the wonderful people at At Home Care Hospice - especially Audreanna, Khana, Joanna and Lisa. Please remember me by sending a small gift to Heritage Humane Society at 430 Waller Mill Road Williamsburg, VA 23185
