Richmond earns top seed in Atlantic 10 tourney

The Richmond Spiders clinched the top seed in the Atlantic 10 Conference Tournament as Neal Quinn had 21 points in a 73-66 victory against Saint Joseph’s at Robins Center on Wednesday night.

Quinn shot 9 of 17 from the field and 3 for 3 from the freethrow line for the Spiders (23-7, 15-2). DeLonnie Hunt scored 18 points and Isaiah Bigelow shot 4 of 6 from the field and 2 for 3 from the line to finish with 10 points. It was the sixth straight win for the Spiders.

Erik Reynolds II and Xzayvier Brown led the Hawks (18-12, 8-9) with 21 points apiece.

George Mason 69, Rhode Island 51: Darius Maddox had 21 points and six rebounds for the Patriots (19-11, 8-9) in a road victory. David Green scored 16 for the Rams (11-19, 5-12), who have lost seven in a row.

Radford 67, USC Upstate 60: Justin Archer had 21 points and 14 rebounds as the ninth-seeded Highlander­s (16-16) outplayed the eighth-seeded Spartans (12-20) in a Big South play-in game at High Point’s Qubein Center.

Radford earned the right to play top-seeded High Point in a quarterfin­al at noon today.

Top 25 No. 1 Houston 67, Central Florida 59:

L.J. Cryer scored 19 of his 25 points in the second half as Houston (27-3, 14-3) rallied at Central Florida (15-14, 6-11) to clinch at least a share of the Big 12 regular-season title in the Cougars’ first season in the conference.

The Cougars trailed by as many as seven and never led in the first half.

No. 2 Connecticu­t 74, No. 8 Marquette 67:

Alex Karaban and Cam Spencer shot a combined 10 of 16 from 3-point range as Big East champion UConn (27-3, 17-2 Big East) earned its first road win over an AP Top 25 team in a decade.

The Huskies had lost 21 straight true road games against ranked opponents since 2014.

Kam Jones scored 18 for Marquette (22-8, 13-6), which played a second straight game without injured Tyler Kolek, the 2023 Big East Player of the Year.

No. 4 Tennessee 66, South Carolina 59:

Dalton Knecht scored 26 points, and Tennessee (24-6, 14-3 SEC) withstood a late run by South Carolina (24-6, 12-5) for a road victory that wrapped up the Volunteers’ first Southeaste­rn Conference regular-season title since 2018.

No. 6 Iowa State 68, No. 20 Brigham Young 63:

Tamin Lipsey scored 19 points and Curtis Jones added 18 to help Iowa State (24-6, 13-4 Big 12) defeat BYU (21-9, 9-8) and finish the season undefeated at home for the first time in 23 years.

No. 15 Kentucky 93, Vanderbilt 77: Rob Dillingham scored 23 points, Antonio Reeves added 20 in his home finale and the Wildcats (22-8, 12-6 SEC) rode 56% second-half shooting for their fourth straight victory.

No. 22 Utah State 90, San Jose State 70: Darius Brown II scored 21 points on seven 3-pointers, Mason Falslev had 20 points and the visiting Aggies (25-5, 13-4) clinched a share of the Mountain West Conference regular-season title by beating the Spartans (9-22, 2-16).

ACC Boston College 67, Miami 57:

Quinten Post had 19 points as BC (16-14, 7-12 ACC) ended its fourgame losing streak. The Hurricanes (15-15, 6-13) have lost eight in a row.

Women Sun Belt Tournament Louisiana 54, Arkansas State 41:

The seventh-seeded Ragin’ Cajuns (16-13) played their way into today’s quarterfin­als at Pensacola Bay Center behind Tamera Johnson’s 14 points. They will face No. 2 seed Troy at 8:30 p.m.
