ODU extends win streak to four

Old Dominion extended its winning streak to four with a 7-5 victory in Game 1 of a Friday’s doublehead­er against Northeaste­rn at Bud Metheny Ballpark.

Rowan Masse’s infield single gave the Monarchs (9-4 entering Game 2) a 5-4 lead in the seventh inning, and Alex Bouche followed with a two-run double for a 7-4 cushion. Luke Waters was 3 for 4 with a run and an RBI, and Kyle Edwards and Steven Meier scored twice apiece for ODU. Relievers Steven Trone, Jay Cassady, Kellen Davis and Jacob Gomez combined to give up just two runs in six innings.

William & Mary 5, Fordham 0:

Nate Goranson slugged two home runs and had three RBIs as the Tribe ended a three-game slide with a Game 1 victory at Plumeri Park. Ben Parker added a pair of doubles, a run and an RBI.

Winner Nate Knowles (three innings), Mark Hindy (four) and Carter Lovasz (two) joined forces for a six-hit shutout.

Central Connecticu­t State 10-8, Norfolk State 2-3:

The visiting Blue Devils (2-3, 2-0 Northeast Conference) swept a doublehead­er. In Game 1, they scored three runs in the first inning off NSU’s Dustin Barham and pulled away from the Spartans (3-10, 0-2). NSU’s only runs came in the sixth as Cam Mazell was plunked by a pitch before Justin Journette followed with a home run down the left-field line.

In Game 2, Derek Haughey homered and drove in four runs for CCSU. Kydese Queen hit a two-run homer for the Spartans.

Virginia Tech 11, Notre Dame 3:

Cleanup batter Eddie Micheletti Jr. had three hits, including a home run, and five RBIs as the Hokies (9-3) dominated the Irish (9-3) in Blacksburg in the ACC opener for both. Ocean Lakes High alum Carson DeMartini was 2 for 5 with two runs.

Virginia Wesleyan 14-7, Guilford 4-0:

The host Marlins (9-5, 2-0) swept an Old Dominion Athletic Conference doublehead­er from the Quakers (5-10, 0-2).

In Game 1, Chris Mitchell Jr. drove in six runs, scored three and batted 3 for 4.

Thomas Crandall sizzled in Game 2 by batting 3 for 5 with three runs, four RBIs and a homer. Mitchell tripled, singled and drove in two runs.
