Norfolk State rallies for NEC victory

Host Norfolk State (4-10, 1-2 Northeast Conference) edged Central Connecticu­t State 5-4 in the 11th inning when Jamal Ritter singled home Raphael Rodriguez. The Blue Devils (2-4, 2-1), who still won the series, led 4-2 before Collin Curry singled home two runs in the ninth.

■ Fordham (3-11) hammered William & Mary 17-7 to salvage one victory in a three-game series at Plumeri Park. The Tribe led 7-6 after six innings, thanks in part to two Ben Parker home runs.

■ Alex Lane was 3 for 6 with six RBIs as Northeaste­rn (8-4) won 17-9 at Old Dominion to leave Norfolk with two triumphs in their three-game series. Nick Mueller hit a three-run triple for the Monarchs (9-6).

■ No. 13 Virginia (13-3, 1-2 ACC) outlasted Miami 14-11 Sunday before 3,086 fans at Alex Rodriguez Park to earn one victory in their three-game series. The Cavaliers had lost 6-5 and 16-12 earlier in the weekend to the Hurricanes (9-6, 2-1), but Casey Saucke was 4 for 5 with two homers Sunday. Western Branch High graduate Harrison Didawick scored two runs and drove in two.

■ Virginia Tech (11-3, 3-0 ACC) socked four home runs to beat Notre Dame 11-8, finishing a threegame sweep in Blacksburg. Ocean Lakes High graduate Carson DeMartini belted a two-run homer in the first inning and scored twice.

■ Penn State Harrisburg (6-5) swept host Christophe­r Newport, the nation’s No. 11 team, 8-2 and then 10-5. Still, Josh Reinhold extended his school-record streak of reaching base to 55 games, and teammate Gus Croll hit his first college home run for CNU (8-5).
