Nora Lee Ponton

Nora Lee Ponton of Virginia Beach, formerly of Williamsburg ,died peacefully on March 11, 2024 at the age of 91.

Nora was born to Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Robert Green in Asheboro, NC. She was the youngest of 6 children. She adored her 4 older brothers and sister. It wasn’t long after graduation from Asheboro High School that she found herself visiting her brother who was stationed in Newport News. While in Newport News she met the love of her life, Charles Lear Ponton. She spent 63 years being married to Lear before his passing in September 2017.

The two life partners spent many years working together and building a family. In 1959, Lear founded Ponton Realty, Inc. with Nora by his side as his bookkeeper. During this time, they moved from York County to Mathews County. After living in Mathews for almost 20 years, the couple moved to Williamsburg.

Nora’s main priority was her family and together she and Lear raised 2 daughters. She was a very loving wife, caring mother and a devoted “Nanny” to her grandchildren. She loved attending her grandchildren’s sporting and school events.

Nora enjoyed playing bridge and hosting dinner parties. She also enjoyed Bible studies, volunteering, reading and traveling. She loved spending time with friends and family in Naples, Fl and Corolla, NC.

Survivors include daughters, Ann Beale of Poquoson and Karen Witham (Wade) of Virginia Beach; her 5 beloved grandchildren, Leland Beale IV, Lear Beale, Hunter Beale, Andrew Witham and Grace Witham. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

A private family service will be held.

The family would like to extend gratitude to Gentiva Hospice and her caregiver, Christina. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice.
