-

Lois Shevlin passed away peacefully on March 27, 2024 at the Hospice House of Williamsburg.

Lois was a native New Yorker; born in the Bronx, NY on May 30, 1948, to Louis DeSalvo and Margaret Conforti, she was raised in Queens, NY and graduated from Bayside H.S. and Pace University.

She is survived by her husband of 50 years, William (Bill) Shevlin, and beloved cousins: Margo Covell, Mary McCarthy, Cathy Yaffa, Mary Capozzoli, Phyllis Scovotti, Barbara Nosaka and Peter and Donna DeSalvo.

Lois began her career with 15 years at Chemical Bank of New York, working at one of the busiest branch offices in New York City. She transferred to the Human Resources Department to take a position as an instructor in the Bank’s management training program, and thereafter, as an employment counselor, and as a recruiter for bank management candidates. Lois left the bank in 1983 and put her skill for recruiting to work as an executive recruiter at several NYC headhunting firms for the next 7 years. After moving to the Princeton, NJ area, Lois’s search for more meaningful work was rewarded when she was hired by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the Nation’s largest health care philanthropy. She worked as a grants administrator and a grants financial analyst before retiring from the Foundation in 2014. Lois immensely enjoyed her work at the Foundation and took pride in being a part of their mission to improve the health and healthcare of Americans.

After retiring to Williamsburg, VA in 2014, Lois found many outlets to pursue her interests. She became an avid Mah Jongg player after learning the game and then taught many of her neighbors to play. She was a member of the Colonial Heritage Garden Club as well as the Colonial Piecemakers Quilt Guild, the Olde Towne Stitchers, the WRL “Whodunnits” book club, and The DOG Street Irregulars (as a Sherlock Holmes aficionado). She volunteered at Colonial Williamsburg’s Liberty Lounge since its inception, and volunteered at the Heritage Humane Society and served as a member of the Heritage Humane Society Auxiliary. Lois was a faithful member of King of Glory Lutheran Church where she served as a greeter, an usher, a communion assistant, and a member of the LWML, Lutheran Women’s Ministry. A memorial service followed by a Celebration of Life will be held at King of Glory Lutheran Church, 4897 Longhill Road, Williamsburg, on Monday, April 15, 2024, starting at 11:00 am.
