BEST BET: RACE 9, MAJOR KEY

FIRST RACE

JAIDEN’S BEST starts for a high-percentage barn and is in good form for his connections following a win at this $6,250 claiming level in his last start. FENERBAHCE won for $6,250 earlier in the year before running a distant second for this tag last out; goes from experienced riders to a bug rider. GENERAL SHAM’MAH has run competitive Beyers when starting for the Nicks barn but is 58-3-14-12; best used underneath in the gimmicks.

SECOND RACE

I WILL BE FREE is speedy, consistent and has a winning history; 12-4-4-2 on the lawn and lastout winner for this $16,000 tag. TWO STEP FLOR changes barns off the claim after a series of minor awards this meet in similar $16,000 claimers in turf dashes. KEEKER comes in this race with respectable form, but is still just 9-1-1-1 on the grass, compared to 11-6-3-0 on synthetic.

THIRD RACE

MASS APPROVAL is just 2 for 38 but may finally clear the N3L condition after a number of close efforts against similar this year; Beyers in the 54-58 range in his last four starts. NOVA LIGHT just ran fourth at this class level most recently, and has back class. STREET BRILLIANT won a N2L claimer two back in a sprint before stretching out to a route and bombing; rebound possible in a six-furlong race.

FOURTH RACE

MYSTIC SKY won a couple races in a row before going to the sidelines; gaps in his worktab but this is a horse that seems to run well fresh. OTTO just ran third against similar starter $50,000 stock after encountering traffic issues; bullet work for his first start in a couple months. ST. LOUIE looms a short priced favorite after two consecutive runner-up finishes for a winning grass barn - one of which came at this level.

FIFTH RACE

BELLAMY TORCH blew away N2L claimers last out for a winning owner that has his stock placed aggressively; returns for the same tag and 2 for his last 3 since being stretched out to two-turn dirt routes. RUN ALEX RUN seems to prefer turf to dirt, but there aren’t any $6,250 claimers on the grass at Gulfstream - hence her placement n here; sixth most recently against similar with a careerbest dirt Beyer of 54. POMERA has been first or second in three of four starts and now makes her third start of the winter; doubtful to offer much of a price but certainly fits.

SIXTH RACE

CINDER was given a short freshening after failing to fire last out in a starter; forgive that race out and her preceding efforts resulted in seconds this meet. MAGICIAN’S VANITY fits off current form but is 33-1-8-7; in light of that history, prefer to use her mostly in the second and third positions in the gimmicks. STELLA STREET is among the classiest in the race but hasn’t raced since August and will be well backed simply as a starter for Chad Brown stable.

SEVENTH RACE

I’M THIRSTY has shown steady progress over her four-race career; winning trainer Jorge Navarro gives a chance to 10-lbs. apprentice Jimenez today. FIORE goes turf to dirt and is dropped in class after facing much better in her two starts to date; wake-up effort would not surprise. GRAND EDGE seems a cut below the top two but has at

least faced better and might prove capable of getting a slice at a price.

EIGHTH RACE

OSCARIFIC is stepped up in class from maiden $20,000 to maiden $35,000 company but is in good form and bred for the added distance. FACT CHECK would have been the choice but he drew post 12 in a 7 1/2-furlong race with a short run to the first of two turns; still figures to be formidable. MORENO MOJO rallied to be second in a cheaper race Feb. 15 but lacks any type of early speed and seems the type more likely to pass tired runners for a piece.

NINTH RACE

MAJOR KEY, the day’s best, was given a chance in the OBS Championship stakes on a synthetic track Jan. 24 in Ocala but couldn’t keep up with those classy runners; now back on the grass, a surface on which he is 2 for 2; Beyers in the 74-75 range on turf. ERASMO’S DREAM finished behind a couple of today’s rivals on the grass in January before breaking through with a dominant victory last out; late-running style often leads to wide trips on the second turn in his races. FRANCESCO FLIER ran second in a surprisingly fast starter stake Feb. 20 after winning a pair or races on the grass; disadvantaged by landing the far outside post which could lead to a wide trip.

TENTH RACE

DONEGAL MOON seems to prefer more ground than today’s seven furlongs, but Pletcher comebackers mostly return ready at Gulfstream and this one is the class of the race. SHAFT OF LIGHT won a Claiming Crown late last year before being outrun in two races this year; a little erratic but fast when he puts it all together; perhaps a slow start contributed to his less-than-stellar effort last out; he prefers to race on the lead. PILOTING has kept better company in recent months, losing to Mr. Jordan, Hi Riverside and company in recent starts; seems capable of being effective in long one-turn races.

ELEVENTH RACE

BLAME THE LAW has encountered problems over much of his career - some created by rivals, other issues his own doing; perhaps a drop in for a tag for the first time will solve her woes; is by Blame, a top turf sire. LITTLE QUEEN is a speedy sort with mostly good form. DAR MOTIVOS didn’t show much over first four starts before hitting the board in her last two.
