SEVENTH RACE GULFSTREAM

-

mare, but she joins a winning turf barn and though she was a non-threatening fourth recently, she did have a wide trip; running for a high-percentage turf stable. OSCURA owns respectable numbers and form in mid-level maiden claimers on the grass, though with a 0-for-10 record, she seemingly has less upside than lightly-raced rivals. MARIO’S REVENGE came up a little empty when fifth recently going a mile and should appreciate a cutback in distance; finished second two back at seven-eighths, albeit in the slop, and now runs 6 1/2 furlongs; lightly raced and therefore more eligible to improve than others. WISE WARRIOR ran third May 13 and followed that up with a pair of runner-up finishes - both of which earned him 54 Beyers. Those are the quickest recent fasttrack figures in the race. GRAND VENEZUELAN has gone unplaced in four main-track starts but didn’t run badly when fourth the last time he raced on the dirt; battle tested against better on grass and seemingly speedy enough to adapt to dirt racing.

EIGHTH RACE

Although unraced since a runner-up finish May 14, DUBAI BOB rates on top coming off the shelf for a high-percentage barn based on his form this year and being proven fresh. MORE MIA has compiled a 11-4-3-2 record on the turf, and is at his best going five furlongs; just won at this class level, though narrowly and with a perfect stalking trip. BILL’S PASSION is the class and speed, but is dropped from optional claimers into a $10,000 after a break going back to Dec. 7 - a plunge that suggests his connections don’t believe he can get back to his past heights; did run well off a much shorter layoff to be second in a race at Laurel last fall.

NINTH RACE

Encouraged that Florida-based connections saw something they liked in JALEN HURTS to purchase him at OBS this March for $145,000 even though he is a Louisiana bred. They weren’t buying him because of state-bred incentives, but of what they saw at the sale; training well for his first race. NONSUCH and DUNK have both run competitively and are twice-raced runners that have experience edges over the top choice. The former owns the top last-race Beyer, a 61, while the latter is a firsttime Lasix recipient.

TENTH RACE

MY GIRL COREY was flat in her latest in finishing fifth, but in an open allowance at Belmont, a track that has probably the best grass racing around; 2 for 2 on the Gulfstream lawn and presence here seems to be an encouraging signal that her owns are looking for a stakes win to increase her residual broodmare value. MIZZ MONEY would have been the choice on her form and accomplishments but landed post 14 in a mile race with a short run to the first turn; a wide trip looms. KING’S GHOST is an honest sort that drew midpack and just recently overcame trouble to win a starter allowance June 16; consistently runs Beyers in the 80s.

ELEVENTH RACE

10-time winner INASWAGGER hasn’t raced since winning a starter May 21, but has historically performed well off the bench and is just a horse that has a history of getting his win photo taken. MCFLY won a similar race June 16 in the slop but has been inconsistent this year, running behind EXPRESS JET a couple times in April and May. SOCIAL ROY scored first off the claim for his winning, new connections and looks like a logical factor with the move from a claimer into a starter.

TWELFTH RACE

MASON’S SONG takes an important class drop from $16,000 to $10,000 company and benefits from some of his chief rivals landing lousy posts. He, on the other hand, starts from stall 4. RORY and CHARLIE ATLAS have some of the best form and figures in the race but landed on the far outside, putting them at risk of wide trips, especially given the short run to the first turn going 7 1/2 furlongs.
