BEST BET: RACE 6, LEWIS HENRY

FIRST RACE

SALT IT HERE prompted the early pace and made the lead in the lane last time only to be run down in the late stages, a solid effort which resulted in a 68 Beyer, making him a strong fit with this group; quick enough to make the lead, or he can sit off possible pacesetter STEADY HEAT. The latter is also fast out of the gate, and he figures to be a factor from the start; slight cutback in distance figures to work to his advantage. SCOBEYVILLE has been in search of that elusive 2nd win for some time but he may improve here with the addition of blinkers, as he flashed good early zip the last time he made this equipment change.

SECOND RACE

DOLLY MAE was off the board in her latest after stumbling at the start and racing behind the pace in a sprint where the speeds held the edge; should get a more favorable race flow this afternoon, and if that’s the case she may be able to run to her best figures, which are good enough to win this. JACKIE’S DISCO didn’t run her best race last time but if she can rebound off that try she could prove a threat against this seemingly average group; back Beyers give her credibility. GONNA WANNA WINK is the one to beat on the strength of that 62 Beyer she earned in her latest; she is not all that likely to run back to that figure, however, as it’s an aberration when viewed in context with her recent figures and she benefited from a forward trip in a relatively paceless race.

THIRD RACE

GOT IT certainly seems to prefer the turf, so he can be expected to improve as he returns to this surface after a couple of dull tries on the main track in his last pair; the figures he posted in his grass tries are among the top turf Beyers in the field and he’ll be tough if he runs to them. EXCLUSIVE PACKAGE has raced on the grass only once, in the Tyro Stakes over this course last summer, and though he was off the board there he didn’t run badly at all, and he wasn’t far off the winner; could prove the main threat in the lane. MARGARITA SUNRISE is widest but he has high speed and some of the better recent figures in the field; main concern is that he seems to be at his best when on the lead and there is other speed to his inside.

FOURTH RACE

BATTERY makes his first start off the claim and turns back from a route and he seems to be a nice fit as a closer in this sprint, which boasts a fair amount of speed; the Beyer he posted in his sprint, an 86 at Belmont two back, makes him a serious threat, even though that race was at seven furlongs. JOHNNY U has speed but can rate a bit and that makes him a factor, as a stalking trip could leave him in an ideal spot behind the speeds; faced a back-classy field in that last one. HE’S A SLAM DUNK is clearly sharp, coming off two game wins, and though he’s up in price he’s actually dropping out of an open claimer and into a restricted race today; bigger concern is the race flow, as he will likely face a pressured pace as he goes a little longer.

FIFTH RACE

BELLA VINCENZA seems more likely to run 2nd than win based on her overall record but she had valid excuses in several of those losses, including her latest, when she was off the pace in a race where speed held the edge (note bold “S” in DRF pp’s); she was a solid 2nd in her previous turf try when behind Dynatail, who benefited from a forward trip in another race light on pace. EMPTY HOUSE figures to get a better set up than she did in her first start against winners, as well as in her maiden score, where she overcome some mild splits to win from off the pace; merits a look based on those Beyers. FISCAL DISCIPLINE took full advantage of a forward trip in a race lacking speed to earn her diploma when last seen but she still merits respect based on the figure she earned there.

SIXTH RACE

It’s hard to envision a scenario where LEWIS

HENRY doesn’t open a clear lead with relative ease in the early stages of this race, which is otherwise completely devoid of pace; he’ll be very tough to reel in if he’s in fact able to shake loose and back down the fractions, as expected. HONORABLE

SERVICE hasn’t really been all that close to the pace in his recent tries but he could in fact be the second speed, which is a testament to how little early zip is in this lineup; decent work since his last start. SHAKE D’ BONE could prove an early threat in his firsts tart off the layoff, and a forward trip would give him an edge on the stone closers.

SEVENTH RACE

The dam of PEACE FRONT, Return to Paradise, won three races on the turf, including a minor stakes race, and her first two runners to start were both winners, including Canzoni, who scored on the grass; sports decent works and top connections. HOW stretches out and figures to be prominent from the start given her inside post; past route Beyers put her in the mix. RESONATE had some trouble at the start last time and that may have contributed to the sub-par effort; certainly eligible to rebound in a big way for Clement/Bravo.

EIGHTH RACE

JERANDSON absolutely lost any and all chance in his last try on the main track, when sprinting here — he broke through the gate prior to the start and ran off for some time before jockey Joe Bravo was able to pull him up; Bravo didn’t push him hard in the race, from which he probably should’ve been scratched, and though he gave way in his latest he can be expected to improve today as he moves back to the dirt. MY JERSEY BOY stretches out and may be set for his best yet in his third start of 2017; some of his better races last year came in routes. BAY RUM is down in class after a decent effort against stakes runner in her latest, which marked the second straight race where she was trying to close against the race flow.

NINTH RACE

MISS CAY O’SEA was no threat in either of her two starts on the main track but that debut on the turf was better than it may appear, as she didn’t break well, then she steadied on the backstretch before again lacking room in the lane; she galloped out well and she figures to get a favorable trip behind a quick, contested pace in this finale. COUNTY CLUB will be a big threat today if she’s able to get in off the AE list, as she turned in two solid tries in as many starts to begin her career; flashed some speed and also proved that she can rate, and that versatility should mean she’s able to work out a trip despite the wide post.
