How to play the Pick 4

- by Kenny Peck

RACE 5: Taking an immediate stand with PEPE' LONGSTOCKING, who ran a much better race in his debut than the running line might indicate. He was off slowly, then moved up quickly to get into position, moving to the lead off the turn and weakening only late. He also galloped out well, and he should be well spotted behind a contested pace in this Iowa Stallion Futurity (1).

RACE 6: Not wild about Morning Line favorite WILBO, but also not wild about taking a stand against him. In an otherwise wide open field I'll use them all in the Iowa Sprint, and hope for something, well, wild (9).

RACE 7: HIGH NORTH returns from a short freshening for trainer Brad Cox, who wins at a solid rate with that angle, as well as many others. THE TABULATOR

pressed a quick pace in the Woody Stephens, and understandably weakened; two-for-two over this strip. MR FREEZE has shown the versatility to lead or rate. LIONITE scored in the local prep for this and figures to use his tactical speed to work out a trip. COOL BOBBY has been away since November but has been working very well toward his return (5).

RACE 8: MATROOH was only beaten four lengths in the Stephen Foster, and he won three straight prior to that one, including the Grade 3 Hanshin. THIRST-FORLIFE might be able to shake loose and control the pace, given the defection of Dr. Dorr; clearly in top form, having run 1st of 2nd in each of his last eight starts. MCCRAKEN comes out of the Met Mile and should fare better here, if he gets some pace help up front (3).

THE PLAY: 7 / ALL / 1, 4, 5, 6, 7 / 2, 4, 5 = 135 Combinations ($62.50 Ticket)
