BEST BET: RACE 8, MISCHIEVIOUS LASS

FIRST RACE

EDNA is a daughter of multiple G1-winning sprinter Street Boss who has worked well for this first run, including posting a bullet 4f move at SA last Friday. Her lone sib to race is Bold Humor (5 wins, including her 2yo debut, $31K, SP). PRINCESS BECKY has a full, solid work tab as she makes her debut for a trainer who is quite capable of firing first time out. KALYPSO NIGHT showed speed in her debut at SA June 7 but that got her into a debut and she paid the price, giving way readily to end up last of nine. In her defense, not only was that her debut and not only did she duel, she was also facing tougher straight maidens so she now has a race under her belt and a significant class drop. All sibs to race are winners.

SECOND RACE

BOBBIE LINCOLN looked good winning her debut but that came in March 2017 and she wasn’t seen for almost 15 months. The good news, though, is when she came back at SA June 1 she ran on well to be a clear 2nd. Not only does she now have that run under her belt, but it’s great to see there’s not another layoff and trainer Ellis does not again risk her for a tag. She’s also worked three times since. JEWELED dueled before finishing 2nd to a runaway winner at about this level at SA April 27. That was her first start after being claimed by Sadler who did not risk her for a tag that day and does not risk her for one again here. That run looks even better when you note the gal she beat back into 3rd came right back to win. Her only start here, last Sept. 7, saw her finish a good 2nd. KENTAN ROAD has considerable speed and her lone win came the one time she ran on this track last fall. A bullet work at SA June 15 says she’s doing well.

THIRD RACE

TAKE A LEAP was slow into stride in her turf sprint debut at SA June 7 but she finished smartly to be a good 4th. She can benefit from that outing and may enjoy today’s longer trip and the move to dirt. It’s also encouraging she posted a bullet work at SA June 30 and Mullins does not again risk her for a tag. CONVINCE moved to this trip for the first time in career start No. 2 at SA June 10 and prompted the pace before tiring to be a wellbeaten 4th. Still, that gives her a feel for this trip, there’s no panicky drop and a bullet work since on June 25 encourages. JUST MINE showed speed at DMR last Aug. 3 before ending up a well-beaten 3rd. She wasn’t seen again for 10 months but the $210K daughter of HOY Mineshaft likely needed that race when 5th. There’s no layoff since and no drop. Two of her three siblings to race are winners Secret Fascination (5 wins, 2 routing, $93K) and Blavastki (7 wins, $154K).

FOURTH RACE

I’LL WRAP IT UP comes here in sharp form with two solid 2nds at this level at SA. The first of those came sprinting so he handles this trip just fine. LAMBO LUXX won his only start here last fall. He tailed off this spring but has been freshened and that, plus the return to this track, may get him back on track. He’s also reunited with Roman who was up for his last four wins. AJAC comes here sharp going shorter over this track in recent months. The good news is you know he likes it here and he’s handled this type of trip well before.

FIFTH RACE

SHARP HOLIDAY was freshened a couple months, dropped when she resurfaced here earlier this spring and appears to have come back much improved. She whipped $2,500 N2L claimers here May 20, was claimed, then beat $5K NL foes here June 1 and gets another encouraging bump in price for this. BRIARTIC GAL gamely won a route at SA May 10 before tossing in a clunker in another

route there May 28. She’s given an encouraging price hike and while she’s been routing of late she ran 2nd the only other time she tried this shorter trip. LA GALY makes her first start of the year and has run well off the bench.

SIXTH RACE

MIDNIGHT SOOT not only gamely beat maidens at SA May 13, Carava saw fit to claim him and that effort has been highly flattered as four he beat that day came right back to win. It’s first time vs. winners, yes, but he’s not facing any monsters. R CHA CHA hasn’t won since Nov. 2016 but he’s held good form this year and ran well (2nd) in his only prior try here. RHETTBUTLER ran 2nd to a runaway winner at SA June 17 and while he’s up in price he goes from open to restricted company which helps.

SEVENTH RACE

DIVISOR was far from disgraced in a very tough sprint at this level at SA June 9 when 5th. That was also his first start in over six months. He can benefit from that outing and note his maiden win came at this trip. IKE was good enough to be 2nd in a route stakes for his class at OP April 14. He was freshened, came back with a decent 3rd in a sprint at SA June 23 and now moves back to this longer trip so he can move forward. That said, it’s first time vs. elders today. AQUILA faced some of the circuit’s best 3yos this winter/spring but found those waters a bit too deep. The $685K son of G1 SW Union Rags has been freshened, returns as a gelding and has worked well for this for a trainer who can fire off the layoff. As with IKE, though, he faces elders for the first time.

EIGHTH RACE

MISCHIEVIOUS LASS has been knocking on the door since the start of this year and looks ready to break through and get her diploma as she probably won’t get many shots better than this. VEILED HEAT has had lots of chances (15) but five 2nds show she has ability and it’s encouraging four of those 2nds came in her last five starts. KELSEYBELLE comes here sharp from GG. This is her first start on dirt so that’s a hurdle, but she is bred for it.
