Stablemates rematched in Tah Dah

- By Nicole Russo

Candy Lane and Drillit, both trained by Robert Gorham for Mast Thoroughbreds, met last time out in the Miss Ohio Stakes – and both were soundly defeated by Baby Nina. With Baby Nina absent, the stablemates get a rematch, and another chance for a stakes victory, in the $75,000 Tah Dah Stakes for Ohio-bred 2-year-old fillies on Sunday at Belterra Park.

Drillit was an 8 1/4-length

debut winner in June at Thistledown with Candy Lane finishing second. Drillit’s Beyer Speed Figure of 49 on debut is the top number in this field.

Candy Lane came back to win a maiden race in her next outing.

Meanwhile, Drillit faced the boys in the Hoover Stakes two weeks later, running second to Diamond Dust. Two weeks after that, the two fillies met in the Miss Ohio on July 21. Candy Lane set the pace before being reeled in by Baby Nina. Candy Lane finished nine lengths back in second, with Drillit another 2 1/4 lengths back in third as the favorite.

Terry Houghton and Christian Pilares, aboard Drillit and Candy Lane, respectively, in all their starts, retain the mounts Sunday in a field of 11.

Market Success won a maiden race by 18 1/2 lengths going this six-furlong trip at Belterra last time out in her fourth start.

Mari Chuy has started seven times, with a win in a Belterra maiden in June her only victory. She comes off a ninth in the Hoover and a fifth in the Miss Ohio.

Completing the field are the maiden winners Rosetta Gray and Totally Obsessed; the maiden Crownable; and firsttime starters Crypto’s Twin Mill, Fancy M, Patti Go Girl, and Rollin So Wicked.
