GULFSTREAM
for a tag for counselor Romanik et. al.; outer post can afford Reyes a decent stalking trip. BERNING
REPENT has never gone this mile, but she sure has improved since moving over to the grass; ought to hear her name called a few times at least. BIENVILLE STREET has been competitive in her last two for a Ky. Derby-winning trainer.
EIGHTH RACE
Been nearly 11 months since DENVER last faced the starter, so she’s almost like a first-time starter, which isn’t bad news at all considering Arindel and Gold specialize with just that type; flashes of ability at 2 makes this homebred filly a major consideration off the shelf when facing fellow state-breds. SPEED STAR surely will go great guns from her inner post when exiting a series of 5-panel dashes; got to catch her to beat her. FIRST DISTINCTION, by far the most experienced of this bunch (28 starts), can be forgiven for the Barely Even drubbing; good enough to get a piece here.
NINTH RACE
Her gritty manner finally got DURVEN to the winner’s circle last out, and now she’ll try to crack the N3L barrier when favorably drawn along the hedge for Team Nagle; a clean, ground-saving trip would be nice. HOTTY TODDY has raced sparingly the last few months for Ralph, who’s dropping her in for a life’s-low $10k today; sure seems live with T-Gaff taking the call. SISTER DRAMA beat a depleted field in her off-turf triumph last month; might actually be better on the grass anyway.
TENTH RACE
Fully aware that the mile is unknown territory for CATANA’S EDGE, but all 3 of his prior starts suggest he’ll be a huge presence on this stretchout, especially given a flyer from the outer box; Beyers are superior to what most of these others have amassed; again, distance is a huge question, but gotta try it nonetheless. If he falters, GLOBAL HERO and OCTOPYTHIUS are the obvious choices to pick up the pieces; their form is mostly uninspiring but just may have to do.
ELEVENTH RACE
MOONSHINE CATE loomed boldly when a bottomlevel 2-turn turfer was run here 2 weeks ago under an N2L banner, and only a late flyer kept the mare from victory; a similar rush, albeit with better timing, could send her backers home a winner. INSIDE TRIP is unlikely to get one of those when breaking from the outside hole; still, that might not matter given her late-going style; solid last 2 efforts makes her a possibility here. SHEZ A GREAT ONE can be forgiven for the latest off-theturf stinker; grass form is enough to earn another minor check here.
