BEST BET: RACE 6, KAPELLMEISTER

FIRST RACE

QUENCH MY THIRST had a troubled break before checking in a distant third on debut in a shorter $32K maiden sprint July 21. She could put it all together here with the addition of blinkers and Boulanger. GROUNDHOG DAY got away slowly before closing wide from fifth for second at first asking in a similar spot three weeks ago. A MI DAT is by leading Ontario freshman sire Souper Speedy, who’s 3 for 6 with first-timers.

SECOND RACE

MARNER led along the inside before weakening late over an outside-favoring track when going from five and a half to seven furlongs in her latest. The daughter of Malibu Moon is bred to go long, and shouldn’t mind moving out to a mile and 70 yards here with Campbell back aboard. DESCENTE is also bred to run on. She could improve significantly on her fade job in a key July 21 maiden special. ABOVE ALL NAMES was competitive in both of her sprints. Her sire annexed the G2 Swaps, and her dam was a route winner.

THIRD RACE

FAHRENHEIT met the future OS allowance winners Not So Quiet and Dixie’s Gamble when second and fourth in his last two outings. He could put it all together this time with the leading bug Kimura taking over. YASOU COUSIN NICK is dropping off several fringe finishes in open maiden special weight company. TIMESKIP placed in the majority of his nine races, including in both of his sevenfurlong starts.

FOURTH RACE

CLEAR FOR ACTION has worked fast on many occasions for a live barn, which has fared okay with first-timers in routes. He possesses a blend of speed and stamina in his pedigree. BLAKEY was second as the favorite to a rival who had competed in the Queen’s Plate in an identical spot July 28. He’s logical for the bottom of vertical wagers, along with another longtime maiden, SENT FROM HEAVEN. KID’S MISCHIEF could also hit the ticket.

FIFTH RACE

WHERE’S THE GOLD is back at the $10K NW2 class at which he was a charging second on July 22 following a wide-closing third in a slowpaced sprint for $20K NW2 types. The improving LASSIE’S VICTOR could get the better of YALLHAVEANICEDAY in the projected front-end battle. STARINTHEMAKING landed on the edges in each of his starts since returning from an extended layoff in July. UNCLE LOU should be considered for the lower rungs of the exotics.

SIXTH RACE

KAPELLMEISTER defeated the next-out winners Stormy Rush and Constantino the last time he sprinted in a tough $32K seller July 4. The hardknocking son of Tapit was a prominent third most recently in a route, which was won by a rival who came back to just miss in another optional starter. SLIP KID figures to lead most or all the way following a third in a second-level optional claimer won by Decorated Solider, who subsequently took the G3 Seagram Cup. BET ON MIKE might be ready for a wake up in his second race off the bench.

SEVENTH RACE

LOVE TO LEARN was in fine form prior to a surprisingly flat fourth-place finish as the second choice in the Aug. 11 Duchess Stakes. She should get back on track in this seven-furlong N1X while being reunited with Contreras, who was up for her last victory. KILLAG KATIE prevailed after a threewide stalking trip when cutting back from a route to seven-eighths in an Aug. 1 maiden special. MADISON WAY is going back up to this level off a $40K claim by a trainer who found the mark

on Wednesday night. Use her underneath in the gimmicks, along with MYSTIC NILE.

EIGHTH RACE

FLUMINENSE romped the last time he saw action in a June 30 maiden special on the dirt at Churchill, which contained two next-out winners. The $410K yearling purchase is by the superb grass sire More Than Ready, and has been working on the turf at Saratoga. MUSKOKA WONDER came from a stalking position to take both of his races on the Tapeta, most notably the restricted Clarendon Stakes. The popular Into Mischief has sired a solid 14% winners on the lawn. TRICKY MAGICIAN lost a nail-biter after dueling up front in a six-furlong maiden special on the grass Aug. 4. Boulanger inherits the mount from Husbands, who’s sticking with debut winner SAINTS MARCHING IN.

NINTH RACE

CONQUEST LEMONRAID broke slowly before making up some ground in both of his races at the meet, the best of which was a second to Pink Lloyd in the Achievement Stakes. Two of his better performances were in routes on the grass, and he worked strongly with Neepawa the other day. CLEOPATRA’S STRIKE rallied for second in three of his last four attempts at this second-level optional-claiming class. GOLDEN SPEAR prevailed in a front-end battle before fading to fourth in a similar spot July 29.

TENTH RACE

MOONLIT PROMISE was stuck in traffic along the inside in the stretch over an outside-biased track when sixth in the July 15 Ontario Matron Stakes. She’s turning back to what’s arguably her preferred distance of seven-eighths in this G3 fixture. LET IT RIDE MOM hasn’t been worse than second in eight starts on the Tapeta, which included a narrow loss in the mile and a sixteenth Matron, in which she benefited from the bias. JUST BE KIND made a wide bid on the far turn before predictably flattening out in the G3 Matron. She’s a very capable closing sprinter on her best day. Saratoga shipper PRINCESS GIBRALTAR is a wild card in her first synthetic track excursion on this side of the pond.

ELEVENTH RACE

CARMENOOTZ is a full-brother to the stakeswinning turf miler Mr. Online, so it wasn’t surprising to see him notch his grass debut second-time out July 21. The runner-up in that event came back to disappoint, but CARMENOOTZ should welcome the stretchout from a sprint to a mile with the hot leading rider Da Silva retaining the mount. ROYAL LASER nearly got the job done in his first turf assignment a month ago. SEATTLE AFFAIR closed furiously in the final furlong to lose second by a nose to ROYAL LASER July 29. Use LAPOCHKA and THE OTHER BREEZE in the lower rungs of the exotics.
