How to play the Pick 4

- by Michael Hammersly

Race 6

EDWARDS GOING LEFT is just a cut below the best sprinters in the game. He tries a mile for the first time here but the way he sprints gives every indication he can handle this trip. He has speed and versatility. SOI PHET thinks he owns this place as the 10yo is 5 for 9 here, including taking this race last year. He won the Brubaker over a few of these here July 4 and it would be no surprise to see him flourish here again. (2)

Race 7

MS MO MONEY has rehearsed nicely over this track for her first start for Jerry Hollendorfer. RANEEM has worked strongly for Bob Baffert who just won an amazing 11 2-year-old maiden races at Del Mar. She acts as though she has talent. QUEEN OF THE TRACK has something none of the other three picks have – experience. She was no threat in the lane in her two starts but faced toughies. NORWEGIAN boasts some smart works for a trainer who’s quite capable first time out. (4)

Race 8

GAS STATION SUSHI was impressive winning her first two before finishing third in a Grade 2 at Churchill Kentucky Derby weekend. She’s worked splendidly for this return, has run big before off the bench and may have a class edge. RAYYA showed ability in Dubai but was dull in her U.S. debut. She’s been freshened, drops and has worked well. She showed in Dubai she’s capable at this sprint game. (2)

Race 9

AGRONOMO showed speed first time out at Del Mar Aug. 23 to duel and run third at 48-1. He figures in the thick of it from the bell. SILENT ALARM has been knocking on the door against more expensive. She takes off the blinkers and that with the drop may be just what the Dr. ordered. MR BINGLEY dueled and finished a good third without blinkers at Del Mar at about this level Aug. 9. He then added blinkers and stepped up in price there Aug. 26 but faded. He’s back to a better level and the blinkers come off. (3)
