Tiz Breathtaking stretches out

- By Ron Gierkink

ETOBICOKE, Ontario – With solid credentials for the task at hand, Tiz Breathtaking will experiment around two turns on Saturday at Woodbine in the $125,000 Mazarine Stakes, a Grade 3 fixture for 2-year-old fillies.

Trained by Mike Doyle for Windhaven Farms, Tiz Breathtaking won her 4 1/2-furlong debut on June 10. A month later, she finished a close third in the 5 1/2-furlong My Dear Stakes, but was placed second after the disqualification of My Gal Betty, who impeded her in the stretch.

Tiz Breathtaking has been idle since Aug. 4, when she took the restricted Shady Well Stakes with an eye-catching wide rally. After working twice on turf, she bypassed the Sept. 16 Natalma Stakes on the grass.

Eurico Da Silva rode Tiz Breathtaking for the first time in the 5 1/2-furlong Shady Well, and will ride her again on Saturday.

“I’d love to see her go long, because with her style, it looks like she wants more distance,” Da Silva said. “She’s a very relaxed horse. When you need her, she’s there for you. She had a wonderful work the last time I worked her. She galloped out three-quarters very nice. Doyle is very confident in the horse. I worked her twice on the grass, and she was not the same. The owner was patient to wait for this race. I think she has a big chance.”

The 1 1/16-mile event lured six others, including the supplements Jolie Bay and Crumlin Time.
