She’s Got Fire gets back on Tapeta

- By Ron Gierkink

ETOBICOKE, Ontario – She’s Got Fire will move back out to 1 1/16 miles on the Tapeta in Saturday’s $100,000 La Prevoyante Stakes for Ontario-sired 3-year-old fillies, which was formerly a one-mile turf route.

She’s Got Fire graduated in a 1 1/16-mile race for Ontario-sired maidens and $40,000 claimers on June 2. After dropping a neck decision about a month later in the seven-furlong Lady Angela, she finished a lapped-on third in another Ontario-sired stakes, the 1 1/16-mile Eternal Search.

She’s Got Fire faded to sixth in a Sept. 1 turf experiment in the seven-furlong Passing Mood Stakes. She won her last race on Oct. 6, a seven-furlong Ontario-sired allowance, as the lukewarm favorite.

“She’s steadily improved on the year as she’s matured,” trainer Josie Carroll said. “I don’t think she took to the turf very well, but given her pedigree, we had to try it. She’s coming into this with some confidence, I would think.”

The wide-open event lured eight others, including the Andrew Smith trainees Line of Vision and Stormy Summer.

KEY CONTENDERS

She’s Got Fire, by Sligo Bay Last 3 Beyers: 73-62-70

◗ Carroll has never won the La Prevoyante, but she sent out Authenicat to finish second in the race in 2008.

Line of Vision, by Court Vision Last 3 Beyers: 83-72-66

◗ She could be favored off her victory in the Eternal Search, after which she was competitive in three consecutive turf stakes. Most recently, she rallied for third behind Dixie Moon and Avie’s Mineshaft in the nine-furlong Carotene for Ontario-bred sophomore fillies.

Zestina, by Silent Name Last 3 Beyers: 76-71-70

◗ She took her last two outings in a pair of grass stakes, the seven-furlong Passing Mood and the one-mile Ontario Damsel. Her Tapeta form included a maiden triumph and a third in the Lady Angela. This is her first start beyond a mile and around two turns.

Bear Paw, by Bear’s Kid Last 3 Beyers: 73-75-73

◗ She toppled older Ontariosired opposition two back in the 1 1/16-mile Classy ’n Smart Stakes, but is coming off a dull fifth in her first turf try in the Carotene.

Clickity Clack, by Silent Name Last 3 Beyers: 70-60-59

◗ Last year’s Princess Elizabeth Stakes winner has raced just once this year, which was a prominent second in the Aug. 5 Eternal Search. She has been working every two weeks this fall and can acquit herself well when fresh.

She’s the Berries, by Badge of Silver Last 3 Beyers: 64-75-53

◗ She defeated Ontario-sired rivals in an Aug. 12 allowance route, but was a hanging fourth when heavily favored against nonwinners-of-three Onatriaosired allowance types on Sept. 19.
