BEST BET: RACE 7, DIZZY GILLESPIE

FIRST RACE

JUNE ANN finished fifth in a 28 horse field in his last start, a decent enough race one might assume considering the winner was a Godolphin homebred and 3rd finisher was trained by Aidan O’Brien. Gets Lasix for U.S. bow and working forwardly enough on dirt for the occasion. ESFERA back to what could be her favorite surface after improved showing last time on dirt. Expecting best yet from this one in opener. NASQ a Chad Brown firster for Shadwell with a bullet turf work on resume’ at Payson. Hard to leave her out of this equation.

SECOND RACE

POESIA chased runaway winner, just missed second money in latest and might prove dangerous if the controlling speed herself this time around. GLORIOUS MYSTERY drops to weakest level yet and could be ready for best yet on stretch to a mile. MIA’S BOBTAIL also gets more distance to work with and some much needed class relief to boot.

THIRD RACE

TAKE COMMAND flashed early promise at 2, comes back fresh and seemingly fit for 3yo bow off series of good works. Runs well fresh. Gets slight edge in a compact but competitive field. W W SPRINGTIME no match for in form Country Singer last time but still improved from a Beyer standpoint and perhaps the quickest of the bunch if away cleanly from outside. BLUE STEEL showed real promise on graduation day only to come up empty in graded stakes/2 turn bow. Back to more suitable spot here. Must respect.

FOURTH RACE

GOLDEN DECISION a non-winning sort to date but ran well vs. same kind last time despite very wide trip and lures Saez for the assignment. AL TAWEEL second best despite slow beginning when facing same kind in local bow. Hard to ignore with a repeat effort. BOUND BI LUCK has been on the fringes with same kind in all three tries since returning to S. Fla this fall. Must include for at least a share.

FIFTH RACE

HOUSE OF COMMONS a little suspect on the drop to this level but hard to ignore against this weak looking group of bottom level conditioned claimers. LUMUMBA poorly posted last time trying a mile now drops back to more suitable distance and exiting an improved workout for this. CANDY MAX knocking on door with this kind, might stand some catching if able to shake loose up top.

SIXTH RACE

MIAHSOLOMIAH gets call in a race full of question marks from top to bottom. Worked a bullet over the PM sod and is out of a stakes placed mare. Might prove right one if handling the green off the bench for top percentage J/T combination. READY TO TANGO another new face who showed some real promise on dirt last summer at Saratoga but now debuting on grass despite showing no published works over the green. Is by More Than Ready although mare’s 2 offspring are a combined 1 of 10 over the surface. Tabbing board here. DON’T MAKE FUN logical off promising career bow under similar conditions last month.

SEVENTH RACE

DIZZY GILLESPIE the day’s best despite a bit of a tough post exiting runaway and popular win under similar conditions in ‘18 finale. PEACE POINTS didn’t get the best of trips when last sighted back in mid-October at GPW but working steadily for return to what appears to be his favorite track.

Sheds shades. May prove one to fear. PERFECT

TAY looks capable of running late for at least a minor share considering the potential for this one to back up late with Powerline and W W Concerto in the lineup. CATCH A THRILL by City Zip and with several bullets in her holster prior to shipping south for the winter. Had a couple of good runs over P M green last month prepping for debut. LADY MUNNINGS a half to Colonel Moorhead who did win turf bow albeit around two turns. Has flashed good speed in the a.m. for this. LADY GRACE the obvious one if neither of the new faces up to the task although a beaten favorite in each of her last two starts. Likely goes for the hat trick today.

NINTH RACE

LEMONIST one of the few multiple winners in the lineup and exiting a game effort beating decent bunch of seasoned $50K starters despite slow start last time. Gets shaky edge with a trip. THE GREEN MO’STER did not have a clean run while not badly beaten under similar conditions by red hot Bern James Bern a couple of weeks earlier and Irad sees fit to sign on again. Perhaps one to beat with a little better luck. BANTU missed a length vs. same kind on 12/22 and continues to train forwardly over local soil.

TENTH RACE

PASSIONATE HACHI bobbled at the break, did not switch leads properly, hung late behind ASTRO EMPIRE in their previous encounter but perhaps capable of reversing the decision with Jose O. signed aboard. Astro Empire couldn’t have had a better trip, held on for dear life as odds on choice returning from near five month vacation in 2yo finale, obviously one to beat again with similar or improved effort second off the layoff. CRAZED a new face to the category while dropping for cheapest tag yet.

ELEVENTH RACE

ELECTRO dominated weaker, earned high marks in Md. finale and could be sitting on another big effort especially if catching better ground than he has in those two poor turf efforts last season in NY. AMERICAN NINJA got parked very wide early from impossible post in local debut. Expect big improvement drawing inside today. SURF SHACK has shown flashes on the grass, facing weakest company yet since graduation day.
