BEST BET: RACE 1, FACTOROFWON

-

FIRST RACE

No excuses in the opener for stakes-winning FACTOROFWON, who after a couple of near misses in other second-level allowances at this meet, catches what seems a soft group for the level. Canadian SLY BEAUTY is a stakes winner in her own right, but runs here after being away for over nine months. A bit erratic over her six-race career, as reflected by two wins and four off-the-board finishes. A GREAT TIME steps up in class after narrowly winning an entry-level allowance Feb. 21 in the 14th start of her career. Her last race notwithstanding, she has been prone to minor awards.

SECOND RACE

BALLY SQUALL, claimed two starts ago for this $12,500 tag, just ran a close fourth in an even performance and now adds blinkers on the stretch out from seven furlongs to a mile; more upside than others. RUN GAL RUN nearly pulled off a 72-1 upset Feb. 24, surging to the lead in midstretch before being run down late and settling for second. That was a slow race for the level, but this race hardly figures to be contested in lightning time. An obvious concern in her 18-race PPs is the fact she repeatedly breaks poorly. MONJA is another with a long history of defeats, but at least she seems to have enough tactical speed to sit close; managed to hit the board a couple times earlier in the meet when going shorter.

THIRD RACE

CREEDIBILITY is the valued-based selection at her 5-1 morning line in the third, a starter allowance, though favored A BIT OF BOTH is clearly the most likely winner. CREEDIBILITY stepped forward last out with a third in an optional claimer/allowance in a turf sprint, and gives the appearance of a horse that might take a step forward with the shift from turf to dirt. A BIT OF BOTH, a winner of two of three starts, is the class and speed of the race and figures to be tough to catch. That noted, she is probably 2-5 odds in this lineup - so not much potential return for those that back her to win. MISS MARCELA finished in midpack when fifth in a starter stake Feb. 18, a decent effort that followed a maiden $50,000 claiming victory Dec. 30.

FOURTH RACE

FOR REEF’S SAKE has made steady progress in recent weeks, topped by a maiden $20,000 victory Feb. 21 in which she overcame a wide trip to prevail. Though yet to face winners, the price is right at 6-1 on the morning line; capable with continued development. CORN OFF THE COB appears legit after a second against similar Feb. 22. Toss a loss in an allowance/optional claimer and she has been consistently a factor over her career. DISTINCTLY BLUE should appreciate a cutback in distance to five furlongs after proving unable to stay a mile vs. classier in a starter stake Feb. 18; second when sprinting on turf vs. claimers back on Feb. 1.

FIFTH RACE

EASTERN PRINCESS could be ready to move forward with a class drop from straight maiden to maiden $20,000 company in this five-furlong turf sprint. Still lightly raced and this marks her second start with Lasix, an angle that can prove worthwhile at times. ANDREA’S PRIDE, another maiden special weight dropper, seems likely to go favored, with bettors likely to be attracted to the fact that she was competitive once or twice in turf sprints in New York. Lacked a kick going two turns last out. ENTREZ ENCORE has twice run decently in as many starts in turf sprints, both times running fourth. One of those came vs. males for a richer maiden claiming tag.

SIXTH RACE

CURLIN’S KNIGHT disappointed when seventh
