FIRST RACE

Another 4-day week comes to an end with a 12-race Sunday card and with a chance of showers in the forecast, although there’s always hope that turf racing can be held as scheduled (as happened Thursday and Friday despite what the weathermen had been calling for). The two-turn distance of the 1:15 ET opener seems to favor BUNYAN’S AXE and BARBIE’S KING while setting a high bar for ZAYA, whose alluring Beyers and forward style make him an obvious threat; not a bad little heat to start the proceedings. As for ‘Bunyan, the blinkers come off, and he’s favorably drawn toward the hedge with some nice 2-turn efforts at GP (forgive those NY-bred debacles) already on his page.

SECOND RACE

The intrinsic value of experience seems an overriding variable in this MSW race for 2yo fillies going 7 furlongs, and that’s why ADDILYN seems to have a decided edge after finishing 2nd in both priors, including 3 Sundays ago when earning a decent 56 BSF. It’s quite possible that the firsttimer with the bullet last work, MILKAH, is quicker, but the grind of this longer race can tip the scales in Addilyn’s favor. Likewise, BOSWORTHY could be showing off early after pushing the pace in shorter races for Wesley, but then what?

THIRD RACE

Obviously the key event toward this bottom-level open mile for fillies and mares was the July 13 race in which MAGALIE and RAINFALL finished in a tight photo for the win. The former was narrowly defeated at 1-2 and has since had an interim start; the latter prevailed by a head at 5-1 and has maintained her pat hand; looking for the good possibility of a reversal, as it won’t take much for that to happen. LAPULGA can round out the tri since somebody has to be third.

FOURTH RACE

Not that hard to notice that Bobby Dibona has been producing his best work with turfers since becoming a mainstay of the SoFla circuit, a development borne out partly by his 23-pct. strike rate with grass sprinters. He’ll put a saddle over SUM OVERTURE for this one when standing as good a chance as any; rail-drawn gray has been well-supported at the windows in recent starts and was a 2-back winner vs. ‘beaten’ types; needing the right kind of trip under Camacho. HARDENED was a 3-back winner for an open tag for Sano, whose stable continues to hit on all cylinders; open-air outer box can afford Luca some viable options. STURGEON was a good’n for Mongeon and now starts for new connections.

FIFTH RACE

That was a pretty brazen first try in SoFla for TRAPPEZOID, although he obviously would be better served with early rating, like he used to accept willingly in Ky.; the Imaginary folks may’ve stumbled onto something useful with this newcomer. GLORY OF FLORIDA earned an 88 (!!) BSF in crushing state-breds last out for Sano; up to you to decide whether that was an outlier and he’ll revert to the mean — or if he’s simply reached a higher plane. CHARLIE THE GREEK and BABY I’M PERFECT are capable with their best; for that matter, so is WINKING AT THEDUDE, although that latest sure was discouraging.
