BEST BET: RACE 1, BREAK AND ENTER

FIRST RACE

BREAK AND ENTER got away slowly before taking the long way home over an inside-biased track in his subpar performance going three-quarters Dec. 15. He graduated the time before in front-running style in a route, and could win the first Tapeta route of the meet under Kimura. FLASH OF SILVER is cheapening up and stretching out for his second appearance of the meet, after bombing in the first. DYNAMITE KARMA is one of those Florida shippers who could make some noise at a price.

SECOND RACE

TRINITY THUNDAH was never in the hunt after a tardy start at 7-2 when returning to the local scene vs. $25K maidens. He’s plunging to the lower ranks, and doesn’t have much to beat in this $10K contest. PROPER PROPOSAL has worked twice on the Tapeta since his dull debut on the dirt at Tampa May 1. SEIFERT got the dreaded Beyer donut last time for $32K on the dirt at Gulfstream, but could wake up in this much easier spot.

THIRD RACE

BENEVIDA has been second a lot, but she ran well against an inside bias Dec. 7, two starts after beating $15K maidens on the grass. She’s been working right along, and seven-eighths on the Tapeta should be a suitable trip for her. MISS VERRAZANO is eligible to bounce off her authoritative maiden win (63 Beyer) in her return from an extended layoff June 6. FIVE DAYS IN MAY defeated $25K maidens in her final 2yo appearance with just a 40 Beyer, but could handle the rest.

FOURTH RACE

BENS LAST CALL closed for second behind a nextout winner the only time he raced on the inner turf going 1 1/16 miles in the fall. He could be along in time in this 7 1/2-furlong tilt if there’s a contested pace. EXECUTIVE SIGHT was also competitive around the tight turns of the inner turf last year, before capping his campaign with a second in a Tapeta sprint. SPANISH MAJOR beat $15K maidens on this layout Oct. 25 under Kimura, who’s won more races over this course than any other jockey.

FIFTH RACE

FINAL ECLIPSE is by the good 14% debut sire Silent Name. His stakes-placed dam produced six winners, most notably turf stakes winner Niigon’s Eclipse. His trainer won at a 12% clip with firsttimers during the past five years ($2.27 ROI). COHIBA GHOST is dropping from open maiden special company for his second start following a long layoff, with Husbands riding for the powerful Tombetta barn. VELOCE ran wide over an insidefavoring track in one of his worst performances Dec. 15, a race you can draw a line through. Firsttime gelding DANCERS GHOST has been working fast for his return to action.

SIXTH RACE

CRUMLIN TIME comes off a front-running fourth in a key $8K mile on the dirt at Oaklawn. She’s worked thrice on the Tapeta leading up to this six-furlong sprint, and is taking the blinkers off while adding a hot Kimura. SAMURAI QUEEN hit the front too soon before fading to fourth in a key route Dec. 4. Note that she was competitive when sprinting last summer. J M R BOLD VISION is eligible to bounce off her gutsy comeback score vs. NW2 distaffers.

SEVENTH RACE

HAVE A SOUPER DAY placed in six of seven outings, all vs. open maiden special company, including a third on the turf in his season opener. The son of the popular Souper Speedy could finally put it all together in this easier OS/$40K maiden event. ALTER EGO is by the high-percentage debut sire Signature Red, and his dam dropped the versatile Analyzer ($150K). OWEN’S SOUPER MOON changed trainers during the off-season, and could round out one of the exotics.

EIGHTH RACE

COURT BATTLE should be forwardly placed in a field without much speed, and could make some noise as a longshot. ROCKET PLAN just missed with the rail in an outer lane the last time he sprinted on the main turf Sept. 21. TWO TIMING seems equally adept on either surface. He ran wide over an insidebiased track when 10th at this level Dec. 15. Six and a half is a little short for the hard-knocking veteran LAPOCHKA, who could rally for a slice.
