BELMONT STAKES FIELD
JP: Set sharp pace and kept going in powerful allowance win over this track. Has to be sent with this one-hole draw.
MM: Whatever was wrong in those 2 poor outings to end his 2yo season is no longer a problem for a resurgent colt.
JP: Got a dream setup in winning prep at Gulfstream last week. Fast pace would definitely help his chances.
MM: Old-school 10-day wheel-back an interesting tactic for trainer who’s won plenty of major events in his time.
JP: Think he’s a cut below the best and he’s coming off a 4-month layoff, but reports on his works are encouraging.
MM: He’s among the quicker ones to keep Tap It to Win honest early; not sure about the final quarter-mile, though.
JP: Was compromised by wide draw in La. Derby. Should be prominent when helping to insure an honest pace.
MM: HOF trainer was indecisive about actually trying this until colt said, “Go ahead”; sleeper sort needs right trip.
JP: Thought he turned in better-than-looked effort in Ark. Derby, as he had to make an extended run. Upset chance.
MM: Fairly sneaky from the back at OP; full speed ahead for a colt who stood to benefit from the Triple Crown delay.
JP: Lone start this year, in Dubai, was good. Not sure he’s of this caliber, but his presence adds significant pace.
MM: Diverted from the Woody Stephens to this; he’s trained by Doug O’Neill, who’s been known to pop with a price.
JP: Would need a significant form reversal to even hit the board. Was overmatched in his division of the Ark. Derby.
MM: Gotta be an owner’s decision to run in this spot, given this colt would be hard-pressed to win a $50K claimer.
JP: Favorite could not have drawn better for a one-turn, 1 1/8-mile race. He likes being outside; should get ideal trip.
MM: Can’t sweep the Triple Crown unless you win the first one; that’s the aim of the Sackatoga team on Saturday.
JP: Lightly raced, unbeaten in two starts this year. Sternest test he’s faced so far, but recent works have impressed.
MM: Tactically useful colt who never would’ve made a May 2 Derby seems to be peaking at an opportune moment.
JP: Suffered first career loss in Winn, his stakes debut, but acquitted himself well. Drew much better this time.
MM: HOF trainer seems bullish on the chances of a colt who’s been the prototypical late developer; in with a shot.
