BEST BET: RACE 7, ALKELINE

FIRST RACE

DANCE THE SKY AWAY closed out her 3yo campaign in early December with a prominent second under Hernandez, and she could have these $10K maidens over a barrel. TYPICALLY made the board for the 14th time in her 28th start when second in a shorter $10K sprint in her season opener. MAGIQUE began slowly before closing for second in her return in a slow $10K tilt.

SECOND RACE

DEPUTY OF EGBERT went three-wide on the turn over an inside-favoring track before landing on the edges in his final ‘19 outing, in a race at this level that came up fairly tough. OUR ZUMA rallied from off slow splits to nail pacesetter CAT’S WHISPER on the wire for second in his improved second race off the bench.

THIRD RACE

GALVASTON has worked fast for a trainer who’s better with first-timers than his 0 for 13 record since the beginning of last year would indicate. The son of 14% 2yo debut sire Silent Name is a full-brother to a first-out 2yo winner. OLD HABITS, a son of 15% 2yo debut sire Old Forester, wintered in South Carolina. This barn’s babies have been live at the meet. ALL CANADIAN wintered at Payson Park in Florida before working thrice locally. His freshman sire’s first runner found the mark here for the trainer of OLD HABITS.

FOURTH RACE

SILENT CAUSEWAY blew away maidens with an 80 Beyer in a scintillating performance in her seasonal bow on the Tapeta. The daughter of top Canadian turf sire Silent Name worked a bullet over the turf training course the other day, and should make a smooth transition to the lawn. ROCHE’S POINT did her best running on the inner turf last year, but wasn’t far back in fifth in her lone main turf excursion. MARWOODS WAR was a minor player on the grass last fall. She was overmatched in an N1X in her comeback.

FIFTH RACE

SECRET PATH earned a 72 Beyer when graduating in his final ‘19 outing, and he also got a 72 when third in his comeback. The Beyer par for this level is 72, and he could exceed that in his second race off the bench. BALA FALLS is dropping from NW2 OS/$40K company to compete with a tag for the first time in the second race of his form cycle. KID FORESTER just missed at this level off a layoff June 7. Use PRECIOUS BADGE underneath in the gimmicks.

SIXTH RACE

ENGLISH CONQUEROR is by the superb grass sire English Channel, and the homebred is the first foal from a stakes-winning turf sprinter. He’s commencing his career with blinkers and Lasix after working quickly. CELEBRATORY stalked fourwide on the turn en route to a head loss in his season debut in a shorter turf sprint. MUSKOKA GIANT rallied for third when going a mile on the grass in the best of his three juvenile excursions. TOO HOT is another possibility in his second start back.

SEVENTH RACE

ALKELINE blew the break before closing wide over an inside-biased Tapeta track to prevail in an N1X the last time she raced Dec. 15. The versatile mare is a three-time winner on the lawn, and she’s been working like she’s ready to roll. COOL SHADOWS

never challenged after a tardy start in her comeback in the six-furlong Star Shoot Stakes on the Tapeta. She’s going on Lasix for her return to the grass, on which she graduated, albeit on the main course. STREET ZAPPER is another who could get back on track after coming up empty in her first run of the season.

WHERE’S THE WIDGET was softened up in a speed duel when exiting the shelf in a grass sprint. His hot trainer doubled up on Thursday, and he should be sharper for this Tapeta tilt. ROCKET PLAN lost all chance after he was shuffled back early in the aforementioned optional starter. He would wake up at a huge price if things go his way. DRINK IN MY HAND came close to landing a shorter sprint at this level off a six-month break June 14.

NINTH RACE

CURLIN’S VOYAGE merits top billing in this prep for the $500K Woodbine Oaks. The reigning Canadian champion 2yo filly got an 87 Beyer for her closing second in her six-furlong comeback in the Star Shoot Stakes, which should set her up nicely for the move out to seven-eighths. INFINITE PATIENCE won all five of her races at Hastings last year on the dirt, on which she’s been working up a storm for her first start in nearly nine months.

Her lack of synthetic track experience is cause for concern, but she could take some catching as the main speed. AVIE’S SAMURAI benefited from a slow pace when romping in a seven-furlong N1X in her season opener, earning a solid 85 Beyer in the process.

TENTH RACE

AMERICAN DRIVEN only missed the board once in five starts on the Tampa turf during the winter. His tactical speed could come in handy in this inner turf event. PAPA’S PLACE is another runner from Tampa who could have a say in the outcome, with leading rider Hernandez aboard. DENMARK wound up fourth over this course and distance with a career best 58 Beyer Oct. 25.

ELEVENTH RACE

FREEDOM MACHINE was along for second in her only race traveling a mile on the grass nearly a year ago. She was in South Carolina before working thrice locally on the Tapeta for a successful layoff trainer. HASN’T HIT ME YET was competitive in both of her turf nd tries last fall under Salles. Professional maiden SARATOGA VISION is logical for the bottom of vertical wagers. First-timer RAVEN’S SONG is a half-sister to G2 turf stakes winner Up With the Birds.
