JUVENILE SALES GRADUATES PUTTING UP BIG FIGS

-

In Daily Racing Form’s Breakout Beyers series, Marcus Hersh examines maiden winners who earn noteworthy Beyer Speed Figures, analyzing their pedigrees and performances. Of the horses featured in this series in 2020, 22 of these were graduates of 2-year-olds in training sales. Seven of the horses were quick returns on investment, winning their maidens later in the year in which they sold.

The two highest-priced horses featured in the group were Cezanne and Center Aisle. Cezanne, by Curlin and from the family of the outstanding broodmare Better Than Honour, was purchased for $3.65 million by Coolmore at the 2019 Fasig-Tipton Gulfstream select sale, making him the most expensive juvenile sold on the season. At the same sale, Center Aisle, by leading sire Into Mischief, was purchased for $1.5 million by Larry Best’s OXO Equine.
