EIGHTH RACE

-

SECRET RULES has run well without winning in each of his first three starts back from the layoff, particularly that last one when contesting the pace from the start and putting away his early rivals, only to weaken late; perfectly drawn outside and may not be facing quite as tough of a field this time. MIHOS has disappointed since taking the Mucho Macho Man early on in his career, though he did try some tough spots after that, and he has still run well at times with circumstances not always in his favor; needs some pace to be most effective and that is something he has not been getting while facing several short fields lately. BIG ENGINE stayed off the strong rail early in the fourhorse Holliew Hughes last time, then came threewide to the stretch and finished gamely to pick up a second stakes-placing from his last three starts; versatile runner can factor here with his good race.

NINTH RACE

KANSAS KIS has disappointed in two straight at short prices, though both of those races were over a mile, and there is an argument to be made that she is much better sprinting - her excellent second in the Busher last year notwithstanding; took a step forward when scoring off the layoff going shorter and cutting back for this might lead to another step forward at a fair price. AMUSE a rare shipper for this trainer and she has, if nothing else, could a comfortable spot in which to make her first start outside of California; was graded stakes-placed three times last year, and ran well again off the layoff in January, and she has the tactical speed to get the trips she wants in this spot. JUMP FOR JOY making her first-ever stakes run as an 8yo but doing so while in form and she also has the speed to be forward from the start; handles any kind of going.

TENTH RACE

FOREST SPIRIT dropped to this level off the layoff and chased while edging off the strong inside without making a late impact; still earned a new top figure for that effort and can do better second off the bench. UP FOR ADVENTURE debuted going a mile and didn’t break sharply from the gate before moving up strongly into a pace-tracking position, and he raced on through the stretch while no match for the easy winner, before weakening late; cuts back with a chance to do a lot better. LITTERBOX

ran in the same race as UP FOR ADVENTURE two back and had some early trouble to wind up at the back of that field, before trying a wide run and tiring; improved on the cut back last time despite racing off the strong rail. 110th St. and Rockaway Blvd. Ozone Park, NY 11417 (718) 641-4700
