BEST BET: RACE 10, DRAFTY BREEZE

-

FIRST RACE

UH OH LUCY never got a breather in her return try but still managed to beat over half the field home and that was off a long layoff. That race did come back key when 2 of 6 returned to win with figs of 65 and 56. This filly improved in her second start and that bodes well for this. Class drop is a plus but notice that connections could have found a statebred spot but instead opted for this. Jock switch to apprentice comes with a weight break and perhaps that tips hand to a front end try. SHARP MOVE is capable in shortened sprints, draws outside, can stalk, and ends up in a barn that is 24% with new runners. SHE’S SMART ENOUGH is a hard trier that figures a decent price due to Colorado lines. A good post going this distance to sit the trip.

SECOND RACE

HERZEN gets back to what he does best and that is a dirt sprint. Yet his recent turf route was solid (61 Beyer) even though this gelding isn’t bred to like the grass. Hmmmmm...maybe this gelding is quietly improving. Race flow is fine as we spy four in here with some speed. This gelding wants to pass runners so rider Shannon Uske is a very good fit. MR. TRIPLEDOUBLE just ran a Beyer top and did so versus a solid field (sent off at 5-1). This gelding draws outside once again and does get good race flow. MEET JOE is the outside speed. He has hit the board at this distance in 3 of 5 starts. Form cycle and jock switch hint at better.

THIRD RACE

BLOW MY MIND won nicely off the layoff two back but then pushed too fast a pace in his most recent (or just bounced). Class drop looks like the money run and today’s pace is much better. We know that this gelding likes this distance and he does draw inside without being stuck on the rail. Main pace foe is outside runner that is cutting back (dulls zip a bit). SEAU didn’t fire last out but it was first for new barn. Cut back isn’t our favorite but recent bullet is. We wouldn’t be shocked if this guy was closer to the early pace than expected. ARABIAN STORY just got a confidence boost, has won at this distance, is consistent, and has worked at least twice since most recent.

FOURTH RACE

PULPIT SINGER ran better last out and faces little here. Is that alone enough? She has some speed and draws fine. Good odds in most recent could carry over some today. Tempted to punch ALL button and move on as this is that kind of a race. UH OH SEVEN has some speed but has yet to win on this dirt in 20 starts. This mare has improved her Beyer in three straight starts. BEAU ROCKET hasn’t done much of late so a good time to add distance. This mare is 5-1-1-0 going a flat mile. We shall now forget this race.

FIFTH RACE

FABULOUS FLOYD drops in class and gets a positive rider switch to Valenzuela (win rider in debut). He draws outside today after being stuck inside in his last two. This colt has some speed and there isn’t that much pace in here. This colt will be a decent price, right? ARUGULA did run well three and four back. Class drop is big. This gelding was stuck on the rail in his most recent. The naysayers will think this guy is off form but we are willing to give him another shot. BULLET TIMES broke 9th of 12 last out and then went 7 wide. We have a new jock for this. It is easy to toss turf try from two back. Curious as to price.

SIXTH RACE

SOLEROCKER is by a 28% debut sire. His dam was un-raced and this is her first foal. Connections find a logical spot for homebred while team Brashears is 2 for 4 with debut types. EXILED drops in class and gets a positive rider switch to Cruz. This gelding set the pace last out but may be better in stalk mode. WHO’S CHEATIN WHO has never run poorly

and that has to be worth something. He draws outside where he can relax more. Beaten favorite in last two if you like that angle. EXHILARATOR is by a 10% debut sire. His dam went 4-0-0-0 and this is her first foal. GRANDPA JACK is by a 12% debut sire. His dam went 9-1-1-2 and earned 11K. All 3 sibs won including a multiple winner. HALF COURT SAM is by a 18% debut sire. His dam went 11-1-3-3 and earned 68K. Lone sib is 8-1-2-0 and banked 40K.

SEVENTH RACE

MARKING TIME should have run better last out but didn’t. Sometimes the girls just throw in a poor race and for no real reason. Both sibs beat winners (133K and 276K). This filly draws better today and keeps the leading rider. Recent work bodes well. BRING IT might be the value. We don’t see many first time starters for this barn. Sire gets 9% debut winners. Her dam went 9-1-2-1 and earned 22K. Of 6 sibs to race, 5 won with 3 having beat winners (105K, 74K, and 205K). This filly even draws well. With Kato up experience won’t be a problem! CROOKHAVEN LASS is a hard trier that gets back to a dirt sprint. New jock is noted. JUST A KISS AWAY is by a 18% debut sire. Her dam went 9-2-0-0 and earned 22K. This is dam’s first foal. KID CAT is by a 11% debut sire. Her dam went 3-0-0-0. Both sibs to this filly are winless.

EIGHTH RACE

A NEW TREND ran just OK last out but it was going only 5 1/2 furlongs and this gelding did break 8th of 11. Gomez returns and this gelding draws better. Plus, he has won at this distance before. There isn’t much pace in here so expect some zip. JOHN PAUL’S BET has back class, draws worst, goes for top barn, and has missed the board in all 3 tries at this distance. You gotta take the good with the bad. ASKIN’ FOR TROUBLE has some good tries here and there with most recent better. If Cruz were to send hard from the gate then this gelding should be up close and personal in the early running. Added two furlongs helps if able to break sharp.

NINTH RACE

SERMON BY THE SEA did win on this dirt going only five furlongs three back. He never got a breather two back while most recent was versus better and first off the claim. The gelding should be settled in with new barn now and they have found a good spot for a runner that got a 75 Beyer last summer at Canterbury. DUDLEY STUDLEY has some speed and draws outside. This gelding has won 5 times on this dirt. Current form is improving and maybe this gelding can clear off again. JILAS

MIRACLE can pass runners and goes third off the layoff. He adds a half furlong today and goes for a barn that is 21% with their claimers. Full field helps all exotics.

TENTH RACE

DRAFTY BREEZE tried the grass for the only the second time previously and ran great. Her other grass start came six back off a layoff so there is your excuse. Turf breeding is actually great at least for this level (317 turf Tomlinson). This 7YO mare gets in light again and draws outside again. Feel good runner should improve back to back this grass. DANSMETOTHENDOFLOV just ran a Beyer top on this sod. She gets better race flow today. TIZ DONNA BELLA is by a 14% debut turf sire. Her dam never tried the green and this is her first grass foal. Current form is sharp and this filly might like the grass with her 319 turf Tomlinson. COCO LOCO MAMA is by a 4% debut turf sire. Her dam went 2-0-2-0 on the grass for 21K. This is her first grass foal. ROSIES BABY is by a 10% debut turf sire. Her dam never tried the green. Five of ten sibs won on the green. MEMPHIS DOLL is by a new turf sire. Her dam never tried the weeds. Lone grass sib is 9-1-1-2 and earned $9,731.
