BEST BET: RACE 4, ALWAYS SUNSHINE

FIRST RACE

FULL COURT PRESS landed in a couple of the tougher MSW races at Gulfstream to begin his career, catching blowout winner Prevalence (89 Beyer) first time out, then stretching to a mile and getting run off his feet by another runaway winner in Collaborate (90 Beyer); ships up on the drop for a trainer who 25 for 116 over the past five years while dropping from MSW to MCL (22%, $2.30 ROI). TRIPLE AMERICANO paired up 70 Beyers in his two starts to date, the first of those while racing wide off of a strong rail, though that was for half this price; went evenly without threat in a fast race last time. ENROULE the first runner from the underrated Tencendur debuting for a trainer who has sent out some live firsters recently. TAPIT’S FLASHBACK has finished second in three of his first four starts, though he hasn’t come all that close to winning any of those races; suppose a second look could be in order after the way a couple of runners from this barn performed last week.

SECOND RACE

AASR an unknown on this surface, but he has run well at times on the main track and most recently endured a tough trip after breaking slowly on that surface at Oaklawn; has a versatile pedigree top and bottom being by Into Mischief and from a dam who was a Grade 1 performer on all three surfaces in her career (lone turf run was a 3rd place finish in the Grade 1 Just a Game). PRINCIPLED STAND debuted at Tampa from the far outside post and showed good speed to eventually clear to the front - after looking a bit hard to handle on the first turn - en route to dominating that field in the stretch; steps right up for top connections. RED STORM RISEN posted his lone win to date on synthetic, but has earned identical 80 Beyers for each of his last three starts on turf, including his return from the layoff last month at Tampa; showed fresh speed in that last one but is handy enough to pull any kind of trip in here.

THIRD RACE

BECCA’S WISH hasn’t shown all that much in three main track starts to date, and the drop in class didn’t seem to help much last time, as she could only chase the pace to no avail; switches surfaces with a versatile pedigree and has some speed to put into play in a race that may not be run at a fast early pace. DETERMINED HEART broke awkwardly in her dirt debut before being bumped back early, and then rallied gamely in the stretch to get up for 3rd; returned from a layoff to make her turf debut when last seen nearly eleven months ago and once again finished gamely after being shuffled back in the early going; drops for her return vs. a nondescript field. OSTRACIZE forged to a short stretch lead when cut back to sprint for the first time on grass two starts back, but she could not finish that race off; dropped on relatively short rest for her next start and once again had a head in front late, before falling short; cuts back again.

FOURTH RACE

ALWAYS SUNSHINE a backclasser who missed the entirety of his 8yo season following a stakes win at Mountaineer in the summer of 2019; returned from the extended layoff with his speed intact en route to posting a handy win going 5.5 furlongs, and he may not have cared for that sloppy going last time. CLENCH was no match for SQUARE SHOOTER in the mud back in January for half this price, but has run two faster races since then and seemed to take a step forward off the claim for this trainer last time, despite running into a hot horse in Ryan’s Cat; Arriaga 6 for his last 24 (25%) second off the claim with dirt sprinters, with a big $5.38 ROI. SQUARE SHOOTER came with a game finish and may have hung a bit while settling for second in the Kelly Kip last time; had also settled for second in his three dirt starts prior to running down CLENCH for half this price back in January; brings good form into this spot as he steps back up.

FIFTH RACE

MAXWELL ESQUIRE found himself as a turf sprinter last year, improving on the cut back to finish a good 4th vs. stakes company in June before winning three of his next four, and having a big excuse in the lone loss; Clement has had several runners ready off of layoffs since turf racing returned last month.
