How to play

- By Kenny Peck

RACE 5:

RAIDER makes her grass debut in this sprint but she is an upgrade candidate after racing behind the leaders in paceless routes in her last couple, and now landing in a race that features a fair amount of speed; barn does well with turf sprinters. CHIKARA adds blinkers but should still be expected to be running late, as she was in her last, another grass sprint. QUICK QUICK QUICK is a proven turf sprinter and the one to beat on the strength of her best figures (3).

RACE 6:

Looks like a prime spot to take a shot against a heavy favorite in this sequence, with Rush the Colors seemingly vulnerable at even money on the Morning Line due to four runner-up finishes in five starts. I’ll take a stand with MORO JETSETTER, who makes his first start as a gelding, as that most recent work strongly suggests he’ll improve off his last race and Beyer (1).

RACE 7:

AMANTE DE SARA drops in class and looms the one to beat in a field that lacks a lot of obvious alternatives. Willing to give CASTING PEARLS another shot after she regressed in her second career start, as her debut was decent enough to make her a threat in this spot (2).

RACE 8:

There’s some speed in here but PICKENS may be quickest of them all out of the gate; perhaps he can steal this if able to get clear in the opening stages. KOWBOY KARMA was a strong second when last seen, closing late to finish behind only the controlling speed, and he was also against the race flow in his previous sprint try; main danger in the lane. ST. LOUIE GUY has been on the lead in recent starts, going two turns, but he’ll be coming from off the pace here and his best Beyers are plenty good enough to make him a top contender in this field (3).

RACE 9:

Tough to get a line on this maiden claimer on the grass, the type of race that’s almost always difficult to plot. The Morning Line favorite is SCHEMER, who drops from Maiden Special Weight company, and while he’s the most likely winner there are many in here with plenty of upside. I’ll use them all and hope for something chaotic (12).
