Mo­kena cel­e­brates Illi­nois bi­cen­ten­nial

To­com­mem­o­rate Illi­nois’ Bi­cen­ten­nial, the vil­lage of Mo­kena and Mo­kena Ju­nior High School will host an event at noon Mon­day at the vil­lage hall.

Illi­nois be­came the 21st state in the union on Dec. 3, 1818.

The pub­lic is in­vited to at­tend the pro­gram, which will in­clude the post­ing of col­ors by the Lin­coln-Way Cen­tral High School Air Force Ju­nior ROTC, the Pledge of Al­le­giance by scouts from Troop 40 and an his­tor­i­cal pre­sen­ta­tion by ju­nior high honor stu­dents.

Caitlin Ge­nardo, of Mo­kena Ju­nior High, plans to sing the state song, “Illi­nois,” and Mayor Frank Fleis­cher plans to make brief re­marks at the event at 11004 Carpenter St.
