Heat and humidity on the increase Sunday
Heat index values will reach the mid 90s and approach triple digits Sunday as the dew point rises to 70 in the afternoon. A scattered thunderstorm is possible by late afternoon but storm chances will increase Sunday evening into Monday. Sunday night will remain quite humid and warm with the low temperature only dropping to the mid 70s before sunrise Monday, well above the normal minimum temperature of 64 degrees. The heaviest precipitation over the next week is expected to remain west of the Chicagoland area but localized heavy rain may occur with scattered thunderstorms. The first week of August was quite dry with precipitation more than an inch below normal through Saturday. Temperatures for the first week of August were below normal but that trend will reverse this week.
