Taylor propels Aggies to upset of No. 2 Tide

-

Wade Taylor took a minute to reflect on his team’s journey after No. 24 Texas A&M knocked off No. 2 Alabama on Saturday to end the regular season.

“We’ve had a bunch of ups and downs,” Taylor said. “On Dec. 20 we were 6-5 and nobody would have thought we’d be in this position we’re in today. This team is very resilient.”

Taylor scored 28 points and the Aggies beat Alabama 67-61 , making their late free throws after Crimson Tide star Brandon Miller fouled out.

“In the figurative fights they’ve learned not to flinch,” Aggies coach Buzz Williams said.

„ Jaren Holmes had 16 points and Iowa State ended a four-game losing streak with a 73-58 win over No. 7 Baylor.

College women’s basketball:

Hailey Van Lith had 15 points, and unranked Louisville used a stifling defensive performance to knock off No. 10 Notre Dame 64-38 to advance to the ACC title game.

MLB: As she prepares for her first managing job in the minor leagues, Ronnie Gajownik took on a temporary role Saturday — bench coach for the Diamondbacks. D-backs manager Torey Lovullo confirmed Gajownik’s spot before the spring training game against the Padres. The 29-year-old Gajownik was hired during the offseason as manager of the D-backs’ minor league affiliate Hillsboro Hops. She’ll be the first woman to manage a Class High-A team.

Skiing: American skier Mikaela Shiffrin finished tied for fifth in a World Cup downhill and had her quest for a record-tying 86th career victory extended by at least another day. The result was enough for Shiffrin to lock up her fifth overall World Cup title. Shiffrin’s next race is a super-G Sunday. The American needs one victory to match Ingemar Stenmark’s total on the all-time overall winners list — between men and women. The Swede competed in the 1970s and 80s.
