Man from Joliet is charged in death of woman

Burned body found in bar­rel last week in Lock­port Town­ship

Mur­der charges have been filed against a man in the case of a Joliet woman whose burned body was found in a bar­rel last week in Lock­port Town­ship, Joliet po­lice said.

Ash­ley Tucker, 24, was pro­nounced dead Oct. 24 and was iden­ti­fied three days later through tat­too com­par­i­son, the Will County coro­ner’s of­fice said.

Peter Za­bala, 42, of Joliet, has been charged with mur­der in Tucker’s death, po­lice con­firmed.

Za­bala had al­ready been in po­lice cus­tody since Oct. 26 for al­legedly vi­o­lat­ing the sex of­fender reg­istry.

He had been charged and had pleaded guilty to ag­gra­vated crim­i­nal sex abuse of a vic­tim be­tween the ages of 13 and 16 in 2007 and was sen­tenced to seven years in prison, ac­cord­ing to court records.
