Speak Out

A high-powered AR-15 rifle

was used to kill those innocent people at the synagogue in Pittsburgh. Why are these high-powered guns still being sold – period? I know it was reported that the owner of this weapon had several more guns and they were purchased legally. We have no guidelines in place and it seems like we never will. Gun sales in the United States seem to be more important than human lives when it comes to the bank accounts of our politicians.

Since so many folks are labeling themselves as independents

nowadays, let me speak up for those, either Democratic or Republican, who proudly support their party. Party supporters, like me, know and support the platform of our party, and vote for those who pledge to implement it's positions. I have voted against a candidate of my party only if I felt that that candidate has been dishonest, divisive, and dangerous. And, I wonder, what independents do when voting for judges or candidates for positions that they know nothing about? I proudly vote party because I know what they stand for.

A small item in a national magazine

mentioned an amazing statistic. Primarily, since we started our war on drugs, there has been an 800 percent increase of women in state prisons. It continues by stating that this means there are more than 250,000 children here with a mother in jail.
