As a proud veteran, I was pleasantly surprised to see a welcoming Military Veteran Parking sign at the Home Depot in Frankfort. And even with all of his executive powers and privileges, this is one parking place President Trump will never be allowed to park at. Jim, Frankfort

During World War II, soldiers were used to practicing on a bull’s-eye target. When they were in the field they were reluctant to shoot at the enemy because they were human so silhouette targets were made for training. Now my concern are video games seeming so real and bloody and desensitizing the youth. That’s why you’re having school shootings and so forth. Don’t sue gun manufacturers. Sue video game manufacturers that cause kids to go to schools and shoot. Pete, Oak Lawn

I couldn’t care less how long semiautomatic rifles have been around. That was then. This is now. We know it’s not the weapon but the person using it. If the weapon was banned, people wouldn’t have guns to kill. Most killers using high-powered weapons are angry at the world and want to kill as many as they can. Yes, some killers are mentally ill. That’s why we need universal background checks. If that saves one human life, it’s worth it. You perhaps can survive a bat and knives, but not an assault weapon.
