State police investigating shooting on Interstate 57
Illinois State Police are investigating a shooting that took place Tuesday afternoon in the northbound lanes of Interstate 57 at 111th Street.
Theshooting occurred at about 2:15 p.m., police said Thursday in a news release.
The driver of the vehicle shot at, a 20-year-old Country Club Hills man, and a 17-year-old boy of that city whowas a passenger in the vehicle, were not hurt, police said.
An initial investigation indicates shots were fired from another vehicle also heading north, police said.
Duringthesummer, state police said they were seeking the installation of more high- definition cameras and license plate scanners to deal with a rise in the number of expressway shootings in the Chicago area.
In late July, police said there had already been 62 expressway shootings in Cook County, more than the 52 for all of last year. At that point, more than half the shootings occurred on the Dan Ryan Expressway and I-57, according to police.
In early September, a 25-year-old Chicago man was killed in a shooting on I-57 while driving north betweenHalsted Street and the junction with Interstate 94.
