State po­lice in­ves­ti­gat­ing shoot­ing on In­ter­state 57

Illi­nois State Po­lice are in­ves­ti­gat­ing a shoot­ing that took place Tues­day af­ter­noon in the north­bound lanes of In­ter­state 57 at 111th Street.

Theshoot­ing oc­curred at about 2:15 p.m., po­lice said Thurs­day in a news re­lease.

The driver of the ve­hi­cle shot at, a 20-year-old Coun­try Club Hills man, and a 17-year-old boy of that city whowas a pas­sen­ger in the ve­hi­cle, were not hurt, po­lice said.

An ini­tial in­ves­ti­ga­tion in­di­cates shots were fired from an­other ve­hi­cle also head­ing north, po­lice said.

Dur­ingth­e­sum­mer, state po­lice said they were seek­ing the in­stal­la­tion of more high- def­i­ni­tion cam­eras and li­cense plate scan­ners to deal with a rise in the num­ber of ex­press­way shoot­ings in the Chicago area.

In late July, po­lice said there had al­ready been 62 ex­press­way shoot­ings in Cook County, more than the 52 for all of last year. At that point, more than half the shoot­ings oc­curred on the Dan Ryan Ex­press­way and I-57, ac­cord­ing to po­lice.

In early Septem­ber, a 25-year-old Chicago man was killed in a shoot­ing on I-57 while driv­ing north be­tweenHal­sted Street and the junc­tion with In­ter­state 94.
